Chapter 45 - SHIT HITS THE FAN
David Lewis was awakened by his very private cell phone, the one only the President used. At first, his mind was a little fuzzy, the President was talking about a video game but he was angry.
âIt's called âWhere's Tariq and itâs about Helmand! How did this happen? I depended on you to contain this. What the hell went wrong and who got a video of the raid! Fix this!!!!â he said and hung up.
David turned on his computer and looked up the game. What was worse was the chatter on Twitter and the questions which the President could not answer? He decided to take a shower and have coffee. He was sure everything would seem better after coffee.
He was wrong it was exploding across the internet. SEALS were doing interviews with covered up faces and voices but he was sure it could be traced back to Alex and TJ.
Now, it was David's turn to yell. He called Frank.
âIs this your idea of handling this? It's all over the Internet. The President called me first thing this morning!â
Frank was crazed. The one thing David Lewis had asked him to do he had failed to do. He had no answer. But he tried to sound positive.
âIt will blow over. It's just a game. Do you think a reporter from the New York Times would take a game seriously?â
David closed his eyes and sighed.
âFrank, the world has moved past the New York Times although they don't know it. I humor them myself. But I expected you to know it. They don't count anymore Frank only the internet counts. Meet me in the park at our usual spot in an hour. I have to eat some breakfast, my sugar level is low!â he hung up.
Frank just sat there. It was too early to drink and he was supposed to show up at the office today. He decided to call John Bradley the private eye.
âJohn, I need an update.â
John told him, âThere is no action. Holly has kept to her routine except for the lunch with her nephew and the lunch with you but you know that. I'm waiting for one more report from an operative. I'll call you.â
âNo meetings with Alex or TJ?â
âNo. As a matter of fact after that meeting in DC they fell off the radar. But I wasn't supposed to follow them just Holly right?â
âRight, but maybe you should follow the nephew too he works a few days a week at the Presidentâs PAC. I want to know where he is at every minute!â he hung up abruptly.
John Bradley wrote down his instructions but didn't like it. He was not in business to follow kids. They were non-combatants as far as he was concerned. He had met with the person he was following-Holly and he had reported it. And that girl from the office had joined them--Ann. But he never expected Frank would be interested in the kid. It made him feel creepy. He sat back and thought.
