Chapter Seventeen

He heard Frank head out for his morning jog, dozing back off almost immediately. The man was insane.

Really. Truly. Completely.

Gordon was fully asleep again when his cell phone rang, waking him.

"'Lo?" he mumbled.

"Gordon? Gordon, I need your help." It was Frank. A scared, panicked Frank.

Gordon couldn't imagine what would scare Frank,

and that scared him. "You've got it, babe. What do you need?" He'd do anything for Frank. Anything.

"Come get me. I got hit by a car."

Oh, fuck. Fuck. He put the phone between his

shoulder and ear and started getting dressed. "What hospital?"

"I'm not in the hospital. I'm just sitting."

"God damn it, didn't they stop to help you?" A fucking hit and run. He was going to kill someone. He got his shirt on, his shoes.

"They took the driver in. She was pregnant. Just fucking come and get me!"

"I'm on my God damned way. I had to fucking get dressed, didn't I? And why the fuck didn't they take you in, too?" He grabbed his keys and slammed the door behind him, headed for the car.

"I said no. I just.... Fuck. Fuck! Fuck!"

"Okay. Frankie. Baby. I'm in the car. Tell me where to find you and I'll be there soon as I can." He could yell at Frank once the man was checked out and safely home.

Yell long and loud. And maybe beat some sense into the man.

"I. The corner of White with the Walgreen's. On my jogging route."

Push - 164

"I'll be there in ten. Don't go anywhere."

He hung up and put his phone on the seat next to him, heading out into the road, driving a little too fast, but he was pretty sure he could be forgiven for that. Jesus.

How the hell did this happen?

He made it to where Frank was, pulling up a safe distance before getting out and heading for where Frank was sitting on the curb.

"Frankie!" Frank didn't look up. He growled. Fucking hearing. "Frank!" He stormed up to his lover and put a hand on Frank's shoulder.

"Hey." Frank looked devastated. Utterly. Oh, fuck.

"Babe." He swallowed back emotion and slid his hand to Frank's arm. "Come on, babe."

"Take me home." Frank stood up, shoulders hunching.

"Are you hurt? Did the EMTs check you out at least?"

"I'm fine. Take me home."

He regarded Frank for a moment and then nodded.

He found one scratch when he got his lover home and he would drag Frank kicking and screaming to the hospital.

Frank got into the car, hulking down into the seat.

He pulled into the flow of traffic. "What happened, babe?"

"I was jogging. She had a headlight out. I didn't see her; she didn't see me."

"And you didn't hear her." Of course Frank hadn't heard her -- the man was almost deaf. Gordon tightened his hands on the wheel, making it creak. Frank had to stop being so fucking stubborn about this. Before he was badly hurt.

Frank shook his head, the man crumpled inside

himself.

Push - 165

"Babe." He shook his head. Wanting to bark and growl and insist Frank get hearing aids, but also wanting to hold and comfort his lover.
