“This is what I learned from the visit to the library; that mark could well be the doorway to another dimension. And, if and when it covers you completely, that’s where you’ll be transported to.” FJ said. He’d driven straight to Janice’s house to report his findings.

“According to an old book from the middle ages?” Joe asked.

“Yes. I saw the markings in the book with my own eyes. This woman, Emily, seemed to read Latin very well.”

“Another dimension?” Joe asked.

“I hate to use the word hell, but…” FJ said.

“Hell? Can I get back from there?”

“Not once you are there. I don’t think so.” Ada said.

“And the marks in the book matched the one on my foot exactly?” FJ nodded. Joe looked again at the mysterious mark and contemplated the awful legacy that his distant ancestor had left him.

“At least we have something to go on.” Janice said, “Someone else had been in the same situation.”

“And then they just …disappeared.” Joe said.

“The other monks wanted to take him to the Holy Land. They considered that an antidote.” FJ said, “ But back then, it was a very long and perilous journey. They simply ran out of time.”

“I feel,” Ada said, “I feel that this is all correct. There was a very kind-hearted monk many years ago with these same symptoms and this is, unfortunately, history repeating itself.”

“If it is, then we must go on this journey. To have the best chance of success.” Father Jones said.

“A journey?” Joe wondered, “To where?”

“Back to the roots of the matter. Going back to the roots of a problem is often the key to solving it. To the place where it all happened, all those years ago. We will visit the Holy Land, just as those monks wished to do all those many centuries ago.”

“Where is that?” asked Joe.

“Jerusalem.” FJ answered and Ada now had a name to give the place she’d envisioned in her imagination.
