After another evening of board games, where Caleb complained about being bored despite beating them brutally, he retired early, seeming worn out from his surf lesson. Brianna took advantage of it, checking on the boy fifteen minutes after he’d gone to bed and finding him snoring softly. She closed the door quietly to avoid disturbing him and returned to the kitchen, where Skye was putting away the last of the dishes they had washed and dried in companionable silence.

Brianna moved behind her, putting her arms around Skye’s waist and pulling her back against her own body. Skye felt good in her arms as their bodies melted together. Brianna put her hands over Skye’s stomach, and Skye clasped her hands over Brianna’s as she leaned against her, tipping her head back so it rested at Brianna’s shoulder. Short strands of silky auburn caressed Brianna’s face, and the aroma of Skye’s shampoo filled her senses. It was a little overwhelming to her wolf’s olfactory abilities, but it was part of Skye’s unique scent.

Brianna could tell by Skye’s pheromone signature that she was aroused, but she wouldn’t have needed the wolf to tell her that from the way Skye was pressed against her, rubbing her butt against her as though to coax Brianna to grab it and give it a squeeze. Brianna needed no encouragement—she was already craving Skye.

But Brianna didn’t take her yet because she wanted to draw out the fun as long as possible. Part of her was certain she’d have a lifetime of moments like this, but there was a hint of doubt, and it was that part that made her ensure she took advantage of every moment alone she had with Skye without distractions from the outside world, aside from Caleb and protecting the boy.

Brianna stepped back and took Skye’s hand, pulling her toward the big bedroom at the end of the hallway. After they were in the room, she closed the door and locked it. Caleb was probably down for the night, but just in case he needed anything, Brianna wanted a couple of moments to ensure she and Skye retained privacy and modesty.

It was a little strange to have to think about such things, but it felt surprisingly right to have Caleb as part of the equation. She’d been irritated by his stubbornness and insolence at first, but Brianna had come to admire Caleb’s strength. She had to admit, the kid was winning her over.

Was this what it was like to have maternal feelings? This protective instinct and desire to have the child in her life? Needless to say, Brianna had never pictured kids in her future. She’d never understood the women who cooed over cute babies, lamenting about their aching ovaries. But this dynamic between her, Skye, and Caleb… well, there was something to it. Something Brianna liked.

All thoughts of motherhood faded as Skye started stripping. Brianna joined her, peeling off her T-shirt and sweats. She hadn’t bothered with a bra or underwear, so she was naked sooner than Skye, and she crossed her arms over her chest to enjoy the show.
