She was like a flower whose petals were opening beneath him, Theo thought. She was everything he had hoped for and more. Dimitri was wrong. Life had no meaning, no purpose, without emotion, without someone to care for, someone to love. What a dynasty they would found together. Miranda would teach him how to care, and he would protect her with his life.

Allowing his clothes to drop to the floor, he heard her gasp. Half turning, he made sure he was angled away from her. The last thing he wanted to do now was frighten her. The urge to shield Miranda from harm was growing stronger by the moment. Whatever life held in store for both of them, he would do everything in his power to make her happy.

Slipping into bed beside her, he covered himself with the satin sheet and, smoothing a wayward strand of hair from her brow, demanded, ‘Do you trust me now, Miranda?’

‘I trust you completely…’

That was all he needed to hear. He relaxed and stretched out beside her. Her breathing was rapid and her eyes were almost black, with just a fine ring of jade to remind him of their colour. Pulling the sheet back, he relished every tiny change that marked the blossoming of her arousal: her swollen lips, her almost painfully erect nipples, and, most of all, the subtle undulation of her hips that called his attention to the source of her need.

Trailing his fingers lightly, so they barely touched her quivering frame, he brought them down from the hollow at the base of her neck, on between her breasts and then over the swell of her belly. But as her eyes widened with anticipation he brought his hand up again, and began idly toying with her breasts.

‘Stop teasing me, Theo.’

‘I thought you liked it?’ He pretended surprise, but he saw how she squirmed with pleasure each time he cupped her firmly and chafed her puckered nipples with his thumb pads. ‘More?’ He knew how it turned her on to ask.

‘Take me in your mouth…’

She angled her breast and spoke so softly it was almost a sigh. Then, reaching for him, she drew him down to suckle. She writhed beneath him while he pleasured her, but he made her wait until she begged, ‘Theo, please! Don’t make me wait any longer…’

Moving over her, he nudged her thighs apart, and was pleased when she opened herself even more for him. He caressed her intimately to be sure, and then was forced to take her mouth and hold on to his control, plunging his tongue deep instead of all the other things he wanted to do to her. Tasting her sweetness was a sharp reminder of how inexperienced she was…but then she arced towards him, forcing their bodies together, and he knew he was lost.

Holding her firmly, he made a single pass, feathering over her. She delivered the answer he had hoped for, drawing up her thighs even more as she choked out a single word.
