A backdrop falls down. The sea.
There has been a shipwreck.
Gilbert is holding a plank of wood onstage. He is in the middle of a storm. He is buffeted about by the waves.
The storm calms. He is stranded in the middle of the ocean. He thinks that he will die.
An enormous turtle passes him. Gilbert grabs hold of the turtleâs tail.
He is led by the turtle.
He sees a stork pass overhead. It is not a seabird. He must be near land. The storkâs flight leads him to land. He has arrived â the black islands.
