Chapter Three

The phone beside the bed rang with their wakeup call. Jordan lifted the receiver then replaced it, lying back on her pillows. She’d had the damnedest dream last night, the edges of it teasing at her memory. Mr. Sexy had figured prominently. She giggled as she remembered something else of his that had been prominent. But it was a dream, right? Despite everything she’d said to Cait, she truly didn’t believe in ghosts.

Still, she remembered Mr. Sexy stealing into the room, fingers to his lips, signaling for quiet, then leading her across the hall to his room. Had she really done that, or had she just imagined it? She wasn’t a woman given to jumping quickly into bed with strangers. But holy cow, it had seemed so very real. Who was he, anyway? How had she imagined the mouthwatering body and very masculine face of someone when all she’d seen was his thick head of hair and broad shoulders? Was she losing her mind?

She lifted her wrist, the one he’d closed his fingers over, and sniffed. Sandalwood! Damn! Impossible. She didn’t even know his name. And surely, if he’d come into the room, Cait would have awakened. Maybe even screamed. Was this what going too long without sex did to a person?

“Why are you just sitting there, staring into space with a strange expression on your face?”

Jordan glanced at the other bed. Cait was sitting up, frowning at her.

“Cait, did you hear anyone come into the room last night?”

Cait’s eyes widened. “You mean like a stranger?”

“Uh-huh. A guy.”

“Are you kidding me?” Cait swung her legs over the side of the bed. “Are you trying to tell me someone came in here while we were sleeping?” She shook her head. “I don’t think so, Jordan. One or both of us would have hollered the house down.”

Not if it was Mr. Sexy.

Wait! Where did that thought come from?

“Jordan?” Cait’s voice pierced her fog. “Did something happen you want to tell me about?”

“Not that I know of.” She rubbed her eyes. “Are you sure no one got into this room last night?”

“Trust me,” her friend assured her. “Maybe you’re taking this ghost thing a little too seriously. Or maybe you’re desperately in need of a date with a hunk.” She giggled. “And I mean a flesh-and-blood one. Did you get a peek at some of the eye candy in the bar last night?”

“I couldn’t get too good a look at them. You and the gals from Austin were determined to hustle me out to the Riverwalk.”

“Where, I might point out, you had a really great time.”

Jordan nodded. “I did.” She wrinkled her forehead. “Still…”

“Still nothing. You had a dream. I hope it was good, but now we have to get going. The sessions start early today, and I want breakfast first.”

“Okay.” Jordan tossed back the covers and climbed out of bed, stretching. Had she really seen the guy with the thick black hair, really smelled sandalwood, or was her very overactive imagination playing tricks on her? Whatever the case, she had workshops to get ready for.
