Chapter Four

Leon checked his phone for the tenth time. Where was Dirk? After not hearing from his lover for several hours, he decided to try Massy.

“Hello.” Massy’s voice sounded winded on the line.

“Massy, this is Leon. How are you doing?”

“Fine. I was released from jail. Did you need something?”

Leon scowled. A sense of unease slithered through him. “Have you seen your brother? I need to send him our new address.”

“Oh, no. I haven’t seen him recently. Not since evacuation. Why don’t you just send them to me and if I see him, I’ll pass it along.”

“Sure. I’ll text them to you.” Leon quickly hung up.

How did she get out?

“Jimmy, did any of the others get released yet?”

The first person Leon had contacted after having pie with Dirk was his right hand man. Jimmy had gone through several evacuations with him and he had yet to let Leon down. His friend’s ability to coordinate large moves made him an invaluable aide.

Jimmy typed into his phone for several minutes before pressing ‘Send’.

They both waited until a soft ping indicated Jimmy had a message. “No. No one’s been released.”

“Massy has. I just talked to her on the phone. She says she hasn’t seen her brother.”

Jimmy frowned. “You know what that means.”

Leon sighed. “We have another traitor.”

“On the plus side, we’ve only had five in all the years we’ve been doing this,” Jimmy said.

“Yeah, I guess that’s something.” A lot of wards had constant betrayal. Somehow the fact Massy had turned on her own brother was one of the worst. “At least she doesn’t have the information.”

“No, but her brother might know what it is,” Jimmy warned.

“I doubt it. He was just a messenger. He said he didn’t know anything when he gave it to us, and I believe him.”

“The question is, how much did Massy tell the Widow? Does she know how close you two are?”

Leon had immediately confided to Jimmy his encounter with Dirk. He’d had to share with someone and Jimmy already knew he was gay.

“Oh, fuck.” Leon clenched his fists. Massy knew exactly how close he was to her brother. “I wonder if that’s why she did it. She’s always had a little crush on me. Arrange a street team to pick her up. If nothing else, maybe we can find out how much she tattled.”

“Will do.” Jimmy didn’t make any comment. His fingers flew over his phone as he put out the word.

Leon groaned. Trust him to be attracted to the one guy who could destroy him.
