Parker answered his door with a frown. “I thought I told you to come on in.”

I brushed past him, doing a quick scan of the living room. “At any given time, there’s at least a fifty percent chance Mac is lounging on the couch in his underwear.”

He shut the door and opened his arms to encompass the empty room. “Not today. He’s really proud of his underwear collection, by the way. Noah keeps finding him these crazy designs.”

“Are they here?”

The air thickened between us, but Parker didn’t move closer. “No. They decided to grab pizza at Johnny’s. Noah said they’d bring us some back.”

Pizza sounded good, and I suddenly realized I hadn’t eaten since lunch. “Are we sure Mac won’t inhale it all on the way home?”

Parker laughed. “He likes you, so he’ll at least put in a little effort. We can always order more.”

Silence descended, and we stood there, a room apart, staring at each other. I didn’t understand the awkwardness. Things were never awkward between us, and we were finally alone in a private space.

Was I supposed to kiss him? Did I want to? Why was he so far away? What should I do with my hands?

I chewed on my bottom lip, absolutely hating the indecision. “What’s happening right now?”

“Is that what we are?”

His heated gaze skimmed down my body. “As far as I’m concerned, that’s what we are. I guess you have a say, but I should warn you I can be very persistent when it comes to getting my way.”

I stopped short of his legs, and he widened his stance. “I haven’t been a girlfriend in a while either. Guess we’ll have to muddle through together.”

He sucked in a breath as I slipped my hands under his shirt. Lifting it to reveal an expanse of warm skin and stacked muscle.

“Take this off,” I murmured.

Parker lifted his arms, letting me pull the material over his head. The shirt fell to the floor, and I wondered why I’d never dated an athlete before. His gray sweats hung low on his hips, and I wanted to lick the ridges of his abs, following the V down until he lost control.

I leaned into him, feathering kisses along his jaw as his hands settled at my hips. “I think it’s my turn to have a little fun.”

“Lorelai,” he said reverently.

Parker tilted his head to kiss me, and we both sank into the release. A different tension built with every taste, a slow, thorough exploration of what it meant to belong to him. I threaded my hands through his hair and tried to pull him closer. The
