Trent was in bed, reading over a few résumés for the position of senior advertising sales exec when he heard the front door open. It was just after eleven, and he’d been home for several hours after leaving Carrie with her mother around dinnertime. He’d offered to stay with her, but she’d insisted that he go home.

He heard her go into her room, heard her close the door, and after a few minutes believed her to be in bed for the night. Why wouldn’t she be? She’d had a long, difficult day.

He went back to his résumés, attempting to defeat his disappointment. But then his door opened and she walked in. His mouth dropped an inch. She was wearing nothing but a silk chemise, one of the creamy white ones he’d ordered for her from La Perla.

As she walked toward him, stood at the foot of his bed, he stared at her in awe. Her face was rosy and scrubbed free of all makeup. Her long dark hair was loose, falling over her shoulders in soft waves, and her full, heavy breasts were barely hidden behind the thin, embroidered silk bodice.

He inhaled, his nostrils flaring.

“Trent,” she said softly.

“Stop!”

Startled by the anger and heat in his voice, she froze. “What? What’s wrong?”

“Don’t come in here dressed like that.”

“Why?”

“You know why, Carrie.”

Her mouth curved into an understanding smile and she brazenly lifted the hem of her chemise an inch or two, exposing the white silk panties underneath.

“I’m serious, Carrie,” he practically growled, his skin raging with need, his erection clearly visible under the thin sheet that covered him from the waist down. “Now, I’m going to give you five seconds to turn around and leave the room. If you don’t, expect to feel my hands on your body and my sheets against your back.”

Her green eyes glittered with awareness.

She didn’t move.

“One,” he began, sitting up, “two…”

She didn’t move, but he saw a flicker of a smile on her face.

“Three…”

She took a step toward him.

“…four…”

He didn’t say five. What was the point? He was off the bed and had her in his arms in a matter of seconds.

His mouth crushed hers as he pulled her back on the bed. For one brief moment, she was on top of him, looking down into his eyes, and something passed between them that hit Trent deep in his gut. This woman was his. For as long as he wanted her.

Then she pressed her hips into his erection and his mind abandoned him. All he wanted was to taste her, suckle her, crawl inside of her and never come out until they were both breathless and ready for sleep. He flipped her onto her back and devoured her with kisses, starting at the base of her neck.

Carrie released a soft moan and let her head drift to the side, giving him better access. He suckled at the thin cord of muscle that housed her rapid pulse and the blood that flowed through her, giving her life. She
