Chapter Six

"Harry, I'm sorry to call you at home, but I won't be in the office this week.” Biton paced the dining room as he spoke to his law partner. “Something's come up."

"Biton, I know you've been having a difficult time since Erik's death, but the Hargrave deposition is this week."

The irritation in Harry's voice made Biton wince. He'd forgotten all about the case. “Okay, I'll be in for that on Tuesday.” He should come clean. The Wainwright investigation was likely to move fast. “There's also some stuff you should know about. Some things maybe not so favorable to the firm."

"What's up?” Concern colored over the irritation.

"Maybe we should talk in person."

"Want to meet for coffee or at the office?"

"Why don't you come here?” Biton didn't really want to leave Cavan alone. That was the whole reason he wanted time off.

"Okay, what time?"

"Now is fine. I've got someone I want you to meet anyway.” Biton trusted Harry. They'd known each other since law school and Harry knew everything about him.

"Someone?” Harry's voice teased.

"Yeah, someone.” Biton turned to see a pale faced Cavan. “I've got to go. I'll see you in a little while, okay?"

"Sure thing."

Biton turned off the phone before Harry could say anything else. He walked over to Cavan. The pale face worried him. “Do you feel okay? You don't look too good."

"I'm fine, Master.” A slight quiver in his voice wasn't very convincing.

"Are you hungry? You didn't eat last night."

Cavan had been so exhausted he slept through without waking yesterday. Then he went back to sleep after they made love this morning. He should look rested.

"No, Master."

"Why don't you go lay back down for a little while? I have a business associate coming over in a little while."

"Yes, Master."

Biton watched Cavan as he almost stumbled for the bedroom. Something wasn't right with him, but Biton didn't have time to pursue it. Harry only lived a few miles away. It wouldn't take him long to get here. He'd have to talk to Cavan later.

The coffee just finished brewing when Biton heard the doorbell. Harry must have dashed out of his house as soon as he hung up the phone. Of course, Biton was a little cryptic about possible trouble for the firm. With a glance at the closed bedroom door, he headed over to let his friend in.

"Thanks for coming,” Biton said as he shook Harry's hand.

"Well, you have me curious. More for your new friend than any worry for the firm."

"They're related.” Biton shut the door before motioning for Harry to precede him into the kitchen. “Coffee?"

"Sure,” Harry said as he took a seat at the table. “So where's your friend?"

"Sleeping.” Biton poured two cups of coffee and brought them to the table. He pushed a sugar bowl toward Harry.

Dipping a spoon into the sugar bowl, Harry smiled. “Erik's room or..."

Biton laughed at his friend's nosiness. “My room; thank you for asking.” Harry had been one of the first people he'd come out to and the only one in the firm who knew the truth about his lifestyle.
