My Pirate Love

The seas had been rough on the return to pirate Cove Island, but Captain Thomas Lee wasn’t afraid of rough seas—or much of anything for that matter. He’d faced the worst the ocean had to offer a dozen times, and what was waiting for him on the Cove was well worth the risk, and if any of his men were to question him, they’d be lucky to only feel his fist.

Thomas makes sure everyone has their orders before he leaves the ship and makes his way into town with one destination in mind. He’s not far from the Mystic Tavern when three men block his path.

“Thomas Lee, you freed a slave ship that I planned to make some coin from, and my boys and I would love to show you our displeasure,” Gregory, another captain snarls. Gregory has never liked Thomas for many reasons. He calls Thomas a pretty boy because he’s known as a handsome man with coal black hair and bright blue eyes.

Thomas doesn’t use slave labour. Every man on his boat gets a fair wage and is treated with respect.

“Oh, go right ahead and try,” Thomas says with a grin because he does love a fight. Some say he was born for it, just like he was born bad.

“Cocky bastard. Boys hold him still,” Gregory orders, and the other two men lunge for Thomas. But he is far quicker on his feet. He throws a punch at one man with so much force he knocks the man out cold. The other man tries to kick him, and Thomas blocks the move and then gives a kick of his own, knocking the man’s legs from out from under him.

Gregory decides to join the fight, pulling a dagger and swiping for Thomas’s face. Thomas blocks with his arm, and the blade cuts his forearm, which pisses him off. He has a date to make, and he doesn’t want to go injured. He’s already bathed and changed his clothes for the occasion.

Thomas grabs Gregory’s arm and twists hard, till he hears something crack and the blade clatter to the floor. He then shoves Gregory away from him and punches him in the gut, leaving him doubled over, and by this time more people have arrived, circling them. Thomas picks out his men from the crowd and tells them to see Gregory and his men out of town with a warning that next time they’ll be buried in a shallow grave.

He borrows a scarf from a woman who watched the fight, giving her some coins to compensate, and he uses it to wrap his arm and stop the blood before he sets off again, a man on a mission.

The Mystic Tavern finally comes into view, and Thomas speeds his steps and is soon pushing through the door. The tavern is full of people, mostly pirates or locals, but Thomas pays them no mind as he makes his way straight to the bar and is let through with a nod
