“So what’s the plans today?” Reece is leaning up against the pillar of the gated entrance. The school emblem etched into the iron-work. He's wearing a branded T-shirt, low-slung casual pants and his signature white sneakers. He looks lick-able.

I smile ear to ear, partly at myself for my wayward and naughty thoughts, and partly because I'm so happy to see him, “We can go to your house again, I don't have anything else I need to do today.” I fib easily. Reece grabs my hand and laces our fingers, pulling me along.

“You know it’s my birthday Friday right?”

“No way, can't be!” I'm wondering why we've never discussed birthdays before. Isn't that one of the first things you ask your love interest? Establishing star-signs and compatibility. “Really? What do you want for your birthday?” My mind starts to spin, thinking of possible gifts I could get him on my limited budget. I get a small weekly allowance which just about covers basic needs.

“I just want you, fire-cracker.” Reece breaks my train of thought with his suggestive comment.

“OMG, there you go again, with your one-track mind. So now how do I know that it's really your birthday?”

“I'm for real! I was born on an Easter Sunday, 22 April. Cross my heart,” He does some weird heart crossing thing with his hands, but the roguish grin on his face nullifies the solemn promise. He is teasing me.

“You're such a tease. I don't know what to believe with you,” I huff, pretending to be more upset than I actually am. We've almost reached his house, with just the community park between us and our destination. I feel him pause for a second and turn to see why.

He looks at me, eyes lit with a new energy. One I've never seen before, then he blurts, “I love you,” His admission is a burst of spontaneity, hitting me like freight train. This, I never saw coming.

“No, you don't,” I blink, shock etching my features. I've never been confronted with such a blatant declaration. I don't come from a family that openly displays affection. The I love you's and hugs aren't a feature in our home. Even my parents never said those words to me. I blink again. Reese laughs, the corner of his mouth quirking up with mild amusement. I'm sure that my face is a stamp of total bewilderment.

“Eri, you don't get to tell me what I feel. I love you. This is real,” he's speaking as if explaining something to a little child. I don't know how to react. I don't know what to say. This is going way too fast. I'm not ready for this. But I don't think I can stop this force of nature that is Reece. Quicksilver to the heart.

“Reece. It's been two weeks, this is too fast, it can't”

“The way I feel? It doesn't feel too fast. I don't have an off-switch Erin. Everything I do is fast and impulsive and wild. Full steam ahead. Dragging everything in my path.
