Chapter 33
Shell Game
They placed the nuclear warheads within tungsten and lead-lined containers to stop most alpha, beta, and gamma rays. But if the transport occurred as planned, the bombs would not be scanned.
Three private jets carried the warheads on their journeys of deliverance. Each had a flight plan spread out over two weeks to create an impenetrable obfuscation. Experts and insiders from across the globe were consulted and richly rewarded to provide the information needed to ensure that they arrived at their destinations without any chance of detection.
As far as anyone on the outside was concerned, the planes transported high-priced motorcycles packaged for delivery to wealthy collectors.
The jet flying to the U.S. had the most complex flight plan, but it guaranteed a successful delivery.
It flew to six different countries, each increasingly friendly toward the United States. Groundcrew changed the tail number and transponder codes twice en route.
The final international destination was Puerto Rico.
The jet landed at the José Aponte de la Torre Airport in eastern Puerto Rico with little fanfare. OAI bribed every employee and law enforcement agent who might question the manifest, suggesting it was just another of hundreds of illegal drug transports.
After spending a day in Puerto Rico, where it received port-of-entry clearance to the mainland U.S., the jet took off with a flight plan to land in North Carolina. However, its actual destination was a small airport in central Georgia.
Over central Georgia, the radio cracked open from the regional air control center.
âFlight AR170.â
âAR170.â
âWe are tracking flight AB170 on an intersecting course ten miles out.â
The controller noted the nearly identical tail numbers but moved on without a second thought. Coincidences like that happened all the time.
âRoger that. We have it on radar.â
As the two jets intersected, they each pulled a six G ninety-degree turn in the direction of the otherâs travel while simultaneously switching their transponders to the otherâs code.
As far as radar and flight control was concerned, nothing uneventful occurred. Two planes simply crossed each other in the sky.
They had circumvented the United Statesâ port of entry control. When the jet landed in North Carolina, it showed a manifest as if it had come from Puerto Rico. And it would clear inspection without an issue.
When the nuclear warhead-laden plane landed in Georgia, it appeared to be just another domestic flight between small airports. No one glanced at it twice.
Groundcrew separated three of the warheads for travel to their future homes in New York, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles.
They flew the fourth bomb to a private remote desert airport outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Just a short drive from OAI.
Watson watched as they connected the nuclear warhead to OAIâs central computer system and as they closed it away in its final resting place behind massive steel doors.
Watson thought, The CEO envisioned this measure years ago for some far off unimaginable circumstance. And now the bomb is here, waiting patiently to express itself. But if I donât get control of Randall, patience wonât be required.
