Chapter Twenty-Three

Ahryn

Charlotte squeezes my waist as she rides bitch. Her laughter is loud, either from the thrill of us racing through the streets or the alcohol and cocaine rushing through her system. We pull into the upscale area on the outskirts of Bakersfield. The houses have circular driveways and absurd fountains. The residents live lavishly while the people inside town barely survive. Good for them. He’s raising a daughter who is afraid to eat and believes she is broken because she is not like them. Her spirit is wild, and they look down on her just because she’s not like them.

I got the girl behind me to promise me she would stop hanging around the small-time gang easily. She leaves for college soon and can do whatever she wants once she gets there. We said we would watch her in our city limits, but we didn’t promise anything more. So when she graduates in six months and moves away, she will be able to do whatever makes her happy. It’ll be worth the wait. Everything good always is.

Killian leads us into the driveway, and I smirk at his choice. The thunder of our motors echoes against the houses. Neighbors flip on their lights to peer out the blinds, and I can’t help but rev my engine louder for them.

“Thank you for understanding everything tonight. Also, I think you are pretty badass riding with all these super sexy men. The way the long-haired guy looked at you was fucking hot as hell. I really hope you are getting that. I am totally into age gaps,” she whispers, and I hope my motor is loud enough to drown her out from the others.

“Oh, Killian? No, he’s my godparent and my VP. It isn’t like that,” I hurriedly explain, not wanting her to continue.

“Oh, that is even hotter.”

She skips over to Ghost, handing him back the helmet he loaned her.

“I feel like I know you from somewhere,” she tells him, cocking her head at him.

He doesn’t say anything. Does he know her? It was weird the way he offered her his helmet. Thinking about it, he just walked up and gave it to her and walked away at the club. He doesn’t react to her scrutinizing stare. She places her palm on his shoulder, smiles, then turns away and skips to her oversized front door.
