Felicio led us through a door bringing us into a tunnel. We were no longer in the amphitheater; this was the building next to it. A side door opened and we were led into it.

When we got inside the room, it was the most unusual thing I’d ever seen. The walls were lined with mirrors. There were rails upon rails of clothes, and shoes with massive heels lined up. There were chairs with humans sitting in them and Fae working on them, putting makeup on them. They were making them look…healthy. Or maybe more desirable. My heart raced. What were their intentions?

My body was driven forward into one of the empty chairs, and Selah was put into the seat next to me. We glanced at one another, confused. I wiggled my toes and worked to get the feeling back in them. She no longer had control of my body. I hated the fact that I didn’t have the power to stop her.

“What are we going to do with this?” a female Fae said to another. She stared at Selah’s face in mock horror.

“Have you seen what I’ve got to work with?” another spoke, referring to me.

Selah and I looked at one another, then back at them.

“What’s going on?” I asked bluntly. The Fae quickly turned around and looked over their shoulders back at me. They appeared to be afraid and were using their eyes, begging me to be quiet. I edged forward a little bit on my seat.

“Please, what’s going on?” I begged her in a quieter tone, but the Fae didn’t answer me. Instead, she took a breath in and closed her eyes. It was like she was trying to catch her breath. Suddenly, the Fae’s head snapped back, and her face was in the other direction now, facing her friend. Her body fell to the ground. Her neck had been broken.

Her friend gasped in horror, but she quickly gathered herself and put her hand over her mouth. She turned to Selah and started to work, adding makeup to Selah’s face like nothing had happened. She worked while her friend's body lay on the stone floor next to her.

Felicio raised her hand, and I watched as the body lifted up and was thrown across the room. Her body lay crumpled in the corner on top of another girl’s lifeless body.

“If anyone has forgotten,” Felicio announced as she looked around the room, “the merchandise is for Paliano, not for you. Now get back to work.” And with that, the Fae began to work on our faces. I had the scariest one working on my face…Felicio.

I stayed silent as she applied different powers and potions to my face. I feared I could be the next person she’d kill.

She stepped back and looked at me.

“Now, girls, look at this, you can’t even tell she’s a human,” Felicio said as the other girls gathered around, making me feel uncomfortable.

They came in closer, examining Felicio’s work.

“Right now, girls, get back to work. The High Lord will not wait for us.
