Six months later

Harper wasn’t my assistant anymore. As much as I loved having her by my side all hours of the day, she lived with me, now. I could see her, touch her, love her, fuck her, whenever I wanted. So, instead of act as my secondary assistant, Harper was now an editor. I’d promoted her soon after our announcement in front of the press and she’d done nothing but do me proud.

Harper was an incredible woman.

It wasn’t long after that, that I’d introduced her to Kenna, too. The two had clicked almost immediately. Kenna had craved female influence in her life and Harper had taken to playing step mom so easily that it made me think about her being a real mother. All in good time, of course, but I knew for a fact that I didn’t want to let her go – if there was going to be a future for me, I wanted it to be with Harper.

We had to travel to New York to meet with a possible new writer and Harper and I had decided to make a family weekend of it. We’d packed our bags and brought Kenna and the au pair we’d started using with us.

When we were in New York, Nancy the au pair and Kenna went to central park. Harper and I met the author, discussing terms and conditions if she were to sign with our company. She was a great writer and if we could agree, we wanted her.

“That was great,” Harper said when we were on our way to the hotel. “I love what we do.”

I nodded, putting my hand on her thigh. I loved what I did but what I loved more was doing it with Harper.

We stopped in front of the hotel and got out of the cab. Harper took my hand and we walked into the hotel, together. When I unlocked the hotel room door I let her walk in first. Harper stopped just inside the door and I followed behind her, smiling.

The hotel staff had come through. Rose petals were strewn across the floor and laid out on the bed in a heart. Candles were lit, put in little clusters all over the dim room and the setting was romantic, special.

“What’s this?” Harper asked, turning to me with a smile.

“This,” I said, pulling her against me, “is our six-month anniversary of when you lost your virginity on the beach.”

She grinned. “You’re such a romantic,” she said.

“Hmm,” I said, kissing her again. I started tugging at her clothes.

“What time will Nancy bring Kenna?” Harper asked, stopping me.

“When we ask her to. I told her we would need some time.”

Harper smiled. “You think of everything.”

I nodded and proceeded to undress her slowly, pulling off her items of clothing one by one. For every piece I pulled off, she took one from me, too, until we were both naked.

I guided her toward the bed and we collapsed on top of the rose petals, fucking up the heart. Whatever.

Harper was breathing hard.
