When I weighed nearly 350 pounds, I couldn’t walk around the block, let alone manage a workout routine. When I got down to around 250 pounds, I started thinking, “I have to do something to tighten up all of this loose skin!” I got down on my hands and knees and tried to do a girly push-up (knees bent). As I tried to push myself back up, I fell flat on my face. I rolled over, defeated. The next day, I tried again. The same result. For two weeks I was unable to do a push-up. But then one day it happened. I did my first girly push-up—woo-hoo! The next week it was three. Within four months I was able to do twenty “guy” push-ups, and I have been doing them ever since. My routine today—twenty guy push-ups and a hundred crunches—takes only four minutes, but I make sure it’s the first thing I do every morning. I found what works for me and have stuck with it for nearly five years now. Is it the best program in the world? No. I’m still a work in progress. Today I also work out at either Curves or Planet Fitness, trying to make sure I get in that cardio that is so good for my body. But it took me five years to work up to this level of commitment.
