Jamie was lying on Gabriel’s lap in their usual booth as Gabriel softly brushed through his hair. He’d calmed down pretty quickly after his minor panic attack and was now sound asleep.

Or so Gabriel thought.

The student was thinking about random things like his school project, how much research on panic attacks he was going to do, and hamburgers, when he looked down and flinched at the way Jamie was staring right at him.

“Alex said something about a fair,” the boy said calmly, reaching out to play with Gabriel’s nose.

“He did say that,” Gabriel confirmed, already aware of what Jamie was going to ask.

“Gabey, take me to the fair?” Jamie asked, pulling the most effective puppy eyes Gabriel had ever seen.

Gabriel sighed and simply accepted his life. He hated fairs, he got nauseous after simply one ride, but there was no universe in which he would say no to a whole date with Jamie. “If you do something for me in return,” Gabriel said, tracing the side of Jamie’s face.

Jamie’s expression fell. “L-like what?”

“Well, we’re going to the fair no matter what, but would it be okay if I filmed you while we’re there?”

“Huh? Film me? Why?”

“You’ll see, it’s a surprise….”

Jamie pouted and grabbed Gabriel’s nose, squishing it with his fist. “No, tell me!”

“Ah,” Gabriel winced, trying to pry Jae’s hand off his nose without prevail. “Fine, but if I tell you, you have to keep it a secret,” he said, sounding like Squidward now that he wasn’t able to breathe properly.

Jamie giggled and let go of Gabriel’s nose right away. “Yay!” He exclaimed happily. “I love secrets.”

Gabriel rolled his eyes and rubbed his aching nose. This boy had a grip. “I’m making a short film.”

“Bout’ what?” Jamie asked.

“You, obviously,” Gabriel answered, playing with some strands of Jamie’s hair. “Well, all the filters actually… you guys have never seen each other, right?”

Jamie shook his head. “No, not in real life. That’s impossible.”

Gabriel huffed. “Impossible is impossible. You’ll see. I’m going to interview all of you guys, and you’ll have a chance to meet each other. Wouldn’t that be nice?”

Jamie didn’t seem too sold on the idea. “Maybe… but I think Lil J is still pretty angry about that time I almost dyed our hair pink….”

“Yeah, he still holds a grudge about that one,” Gabriel said, reminded of how much resentfulness Lil J seemed to have for Jamie and Jade. “But I’m sure he’ll think your taste in men has improved.”

Jamie squealed and stole the attention of everyone in the café. “Of course,” the boy said, snuggling up to Gabriel. “Alright then. Can we go now?”

“Sure thing. But let me ask Alex permission firs—”

“I’m an adult,” Jamie said, glaring up at Gabriel with an unamused expression. “Or something around that….”

Gabriel snorted and grabbed some of Jamie’s cheek to pinch it slightly. “You don’t know your age?”

“Well, I dunno… I like nineteen because then I’m basically an adult, but not old. “

Gabriel nodded and carefully guided Jamie off his lap. “Alright then, nineteen-year-old. But I’m still letting Alex know where we’re going.
