Chapter 4

When she sat there, she looked at the door. It was closed, and the sound of the lock clicking on it made it obvious that it was a private matter. She walked over there, standing next to the door. She knew it was wrong to eavesdrop on people, but Walter never came by here, and he seemed to be mad at her. She knew that Walter was a hardass, and he didn’t really approve of the way Cameron did things. He was an associate of the company; one who wanted to make sure that everyone was on the same page.

She heard them sit down, and then, Cameron spoke.

“What’s up?” he asked.

“Well I wanted to show you some of the papers that I’ve gotten over the last couple of weeks. It looks like you’ve been distracted. What’s going on?” he asked.

She paused, wondering if the company really was going downhill. If it was, she didn’t notice it. But Cameron brushed it off.

“Those don’t mean shit. Everything is fine. I know you’re trying to get me scared Walter so I can have you around all the time, but I don’t want that. I want to be left to my own devices,” he said.

“Well Walter, when you’re doing that sort of thing, sometimes things get bad. I just want you to think for yourself and be smart about this sort of thing,” he said.

“I am smart about it!” he screamed.

“I know, but you’re acting foolish. Plus, I heard you and that girl arguing earlier. What’s up with that?” he asked.

Oh no. So he was going to find out about the baby. This was going to be bad, that’s for sure.

“It’s none of your damn business. That’s my job, and not yours,” he said.

“So, you knocked her up,” the man replied.

Cameron sounded angry, and she could hear it from the way he pounded his fist on his desk.

“Why do you care? You won’t get this company,” he said.

“Well I think it’s foolish for you to be fraternizing with your secretary. She has the wrong idea of you, you know,” the other replied.

What did he mean by that? Was that the feelings that Alana had for him? She didn’t think so, but that was the only option.

“Well you don’t have to know about that,” he said.

“I think I do. I think it’s important that you keep your nose clean and away from any…unsavory options,” he said.

“Well fuck off. This is my life, not yours,” Cameron said.

“As you say. But let me warn you about something. If you choose to go along with having this baby, I will tell Desiree. I know that she can’t have one, but this is the wrong way to go about it. I don’t want you ruining your company. I will tell her if you don’t give it up, but that’s your call in the end. I’m just an associate, I don’t want to stop you,” he said.

“Shut up,” Cameron replied.

“You’ve been hanging with that damn secretary for too long. You’ve grown weak and uncouth,” the man said.
