told the students, handing them out. "Make sure I have this week's field notes by next section. After
that, you need to work on your research papers and prepare for the final exam."
Kiya was ready to just go to sleep, his body exhausted. He sighed and put his things back into his
bag and went to the front to get his paper. He found it after a moment or two and eyed the grade on it,
glancing worriedly up at Brian who was busy trying to answer questions from several students at once.
Kiya was upset that he had only gotten a “B.” Sure, it was a good grade, but it wasn't the best. Kiya
figured he wouldn't get a chance to talk to Brian about it with the other students around, so he walked
over to a bench near the shuttle stop, carefully sitting down and shifting as his body reminded him
again what he had spent the last day and early morning doing.
Brian tried to patiently answer everyone, despite his urge to just run off with Kiya. He noticed one
young woman was touching his arm a lot and seeming to ask more than was necessary. He wasn't
surprised to smell that she was aroused by him. He ignored it and eventually all the questions were
answered and he was able to turn and look for Kiya. Spotting him on a bench, he walked over and
stood staring down at his lover. He wanted to kiss him right there but knew he couldn't. "You look
tired," he said softly.
"I am," Kiya told him, holding a hand out so that Brian could pull him up.
Brian pulled but had to step back rather than draw Kiya against him. He held his hand for a
moment, squeezing it before letting go.
"Your place?" Kiya asked quietly, so that only Brian could hear him.
Brian's heart sped up. He had thought Kiya would rather go home to sleep. "My truck is over by
your apartment. You can pick up what you need there," he answered, nodding and guiding them over to
wait for the shuttle up to College Ten.
Kiya nodded back in reply and followed him, rolling his shoulders and looking down at the paper
still in his hands. "And what's up with this grade?" he asked.
"Are you asking me as your teacher or as your lover?" Brian whispered.
"As my teacher first, then my lover," Kiya answered, just as quiet.
"You were sloppy. You could have done better," Brian answered honestly.
Kiya frowned a little. He hated being criticized. "I know I can," he mumbled.
Brian could tell that Kiya was unhappy but he didn't know what to do about it. He couldn't go easy
on him just because they were involved with each other. They sat in silence while the shuttle made its
way up the hill to College Ten and then Brian followed Kiya up to his apartment.
"Now tell me as my lover?" Kiya asked.
"When we are alone," Brian whispered. His hearing was better than any human, so he was aware
that someone was home in Kiya's apartment. As Kiya went to open the door, Brian stepped back.
