“I’m going to blow your mind!” Axel proclaims and leads me down a hallway into a room with nothing in it. He opens a large empty closet, leans forward, and punches some numbers into what I think is an extremely large safe. The back of the closet slides open, revealing a teal panelled elevator.

There’s one button for up, one button for down. I close my eyes. I’m not happy. Sharps and I have that in common: neither of us like enclosed spaces.

It seems like an eternity before the elevator stops with a small ping, and the door opens.

“Out you go, my lady,” he gestures with a big sweep of his hand. I step out into a long, narrow hallway lit with blue-green tube lights. It’s like being in an underground aquarium.

“Hey Mary, relax my lady,” Axel says. “I’m here. Come on, give me a big hug. There, there.” I bury my face in his chest. “It’s fine, sweetheart. I’ll always look after you. People get a bit disorientated when they initially come down here, but don’t worry, fresh air is pumped in all the time. Take a nice deep breath in and a nice long breath out. I’ve got the AC on full blast, so the folks won’t sweat while they’re on the job. But sometimes, ha ha, to change it up, I turn the AC off. Then the buckets of sweat come off them. The punters do like them all slippery and wet. You need to keep mixing it up, you know, keep them interested.”

“Punters?”

“Mary, I don’t want you to be offended by what you see. Sometimes a man’s got to do what a man’s go to do. You know that, right? You’re my general and you want to know everything. So I’m going to show you. I need you to be a big brave girl.”

I’m getting offended by his tone. What am I? A three-year-old who’s scraped her knee? I pull away.

“I’m fine,” I say curtly. “What exactly do you do down here?”

“I run the world’s greatest sex show!” Axel announces triumphantly. “Every sensuality known to man or woman or those who’d rather remain unlabelled.”

“What did you just say?”

“Yes! Amazing, I know! Welcome to Sextopia! Off you go then, explore to your heart’s content. Look in all the windows, take your time. No one will bite you. A word of warning, we do satisfy every desire.”

I walk over to the first window, and Axel joins me. “Mumsy hates this place.” He sounds forlorn. “When I first suggested it, she said I had no moral compass. I love that woman with my heart and soul, but she turned on me. She chose my sister. After everything I did for both of them. But let’s not talk about them.” He puts his arm around me, and his warmth fills my heart. I know he’s got issues, to say the least, but when I’m with him all my worries fall away. It’s just our romantic little bubble. Plus, the sex is jaw-droppingly, mind-blowingly incredible.
