I was laid out on my couch with my warm blue blanket covering up my body, trying to focus on the movie that was currently on the TV screen, but Tori’s loud-mouthed ass was talking so much ‘til I had to grab the remote and turn up the volume. I’d been trying to watch this movie for the past thirty minutes, but all I could hear was Tori boasting about Justin calling her back to back. As soon as I placed the remote beside my legs, I felt an object connect with the back of my head. Touching my head, I looked down and saw the spoon that Tori was eating her ice-cream with on the floor next to me. I slowly moved my eyes from the floor to Tori’s face, mean mugging her.

“Why you being all rude and shit, turning this damn TV up so loud when I’m trying to talk to you?” she asked, returning the same facial expression.

“Because you’ve been talking about the same damn thing for that past half hour. Okay, Justin keeps calling you; that’s what he always does when you aren’t at home, and I’m pretty sure that he will be over here to carry your ass out before the night ends. Once y’all get home, it’s going to be a fight, he’ll fuck you senseless, and then you’ll forgive him. I don’t need to constantly hear about a story I already know the ending to,” I said with a hint of aggravation, turning my back to her so I could try to get into the movie. I loved my cousin and all, but I didn’t feel like hearing about her drama right now, especially when it was over something so petty. I had enough negativity surrounding me, and I didn’t think I could handle anymore tonight. I just wanted to have a quiet night in the house, curl up, and watch a good movie.

“Damn, tell me how you really feel. Who pissed in your cereal this morning?” I heard her ask, but I didn’t respond. “I know when I’m not wanted. I’m going to your room to sleep, and you better not wake me up either, or we gon’ throw them hands, with your rude ass.”

I could see her from my peripheral as she stomped to the back. She slammed the door, and I just shrugged my shoulders, snuggling up with my blanket so I could enjoy what was left of the movie. I was used to her tactics, and they didn’t faze me one bit.

I was in the process of going to sleep when I heard my phone ringing near my ear. With my eyes still half closed, I tapped the screen and placed it to my ear. “Hello?” I answered in a groggy voice.

“Why are you showing me your damn ear?” the other person on the line said. My eyes popped open when I recognized who the voice it belonged to. I removed the phone from my ear and realized that instead of Ron calling, he had FaceTimed me.
