Chapter Nine

A plate of seafood pasta salad was set down in front of Symone, making her stomach rumble. She thanked the waiter and dove in.

The current multiple sales she was working on was kicking her butt and she barely found time to eat, let alone sit down while doing it. The only good thing to come out of the hectic pace she’d been racing at was that she hadn’t had a chance to sit and think about Marco and Zander.

That wasn’t entirely true, since she found herself thinking about them with a healthy dose of guilt often enough. At least her heavy workload offered a distraction from dwelling on it.

Both had called her the morning she’d snuck out of her house like a coward, and needless to say neither of them had been happy about her going AWOL. She didn’t understand how people could play the role of player. Sure, the sex had been beyond her wildest expectations but the guilt was a bitch to live with. How the hell did people do it over and over? How did they leave the emotions out of it and just enjoy the physical aspects of the encounter?

She was finding out, for her personally, that there was no such thing as unemotional sex. She wasn’t in love with either of them. Those emotions or anything remotely associated with that were firmly tucked behind a closed and deadbolt locked heart. Guilt, however, was one emotion she had plenty of.

It was the reason she had agreed to see them both again, that and the fact that she generally liked being in their company. It also scared the hell out of her. They were both the kind of men she could see herself falling for if she wasn’t careful. From past experience, that was a very bad thing. Opening up her heart wasn’t something she was ready for.

So much for your determination to become a bad girl.

Bad girl didn’t mean she couldn’t still have a heart. The tricky part was playing the bad girl and not losing said heart. It might be a frightening thought, but she could easily admit that the idea of spending another evening in bliss with Marco and Zander might be worth any risk.

She finished her salad, washed it down with her water with lemon then paid the bill. If she sat too long she would more than likely try to talk herself out of what she was about to do. Spending the afternoon on a private beach with two gods such as Marco and Zander was like gambling in a high-stakes game, but instead of money on the table, it was her heart. However, the chance at a jackpot in the form of spending another night in their arms again made the risks seem pretty insignificant at the moment. Then again, she was sure many people in Gamblers Anonymous had thought the same thing before they’d hit rock bottom.
