Mel washes a load of laundry Sunday night and gives the house a quick tidy and clean before making herself a light salad for dinner. She cannot stop smiling as she thinks about the night she spent with Mark. She decides to ring Jessie, suddenly needing to share her happiness with her sister.

“Hi Jess,” she sings as her sister answers the phone.

“Mel! Hang on a minute. I’ll just give Jayden to his Dad.” She waits as Jessie hands her baby son to her husband, Ricky. She listens to the happy family chatter in the background for a few minutes, idly drawing circles with her finger on the arm of the sofa, before Jessie comes back on the phone.

“What’s up, Mel? How did your first week at work go?”

She tells Jessie about her week, her lunches with Louise, and how excited she is to have landed such a great job. “And,” she pauses for effect, “I met someone lovely, I stayed over at his place last night, and I’m meeting him again for dinner on Thursday.”

Jessie squeals into the phone. “Mel, that’s fantastic. I’m so pleased for you. Come on, give me the details, I want all the gossip. I’m an old, married lady and I don’t get to have these kind of adventures anymore. What’s he like?”

She smiles. She does not have to be asked twice. She tells Jessie all about Mark and the night they spent together, only stopping when she hears Jayden crying in the background. “Jess, I’ll let you go now and tend to my gorgeous nephew. I just wanted to tell you that everything is perfect in my world. I’ll talk to you soon.”
