“Marcus will be staying with us for a few days. I need him because I feel like buying a whole liquor store right now.”

I sighed. “Dray, I know you’re upset. No one ever thought that this was gonna happen. They were just at church yesterday. I just saw them yesterday. Rockwell seemed so happy that Alexa was pregnant, but it was obvious that she told him that the baby was not his later on yesterday. What happened in that room, Dray?”

“That’s exactly what she told him,” he confessed. “He set up a fake meeting with me today to obviously confront me about it. It was only me in there talking to them. We talked for a little while and he seemed nervous. We talked for a few minutes about Alexa’s business because it had been declining in recent months, but it was clear he had other things in mind. She just blurted out, ‘He knows.’ And that’s when everything went off. He pulled out the gun and said he wasn’t taking care of my child, and shot her in the head and stomach right in front of me. I could tell by the way she dropped to the floor that she was killed instantly. He then fired a shot at me as I ran towards the door. Fortunately, it missed me and went into the glass window, otherwise I would’ve been laying in there dead with the two of them—but it hit Jadon. He was seriously in the wrong place at the wrong time. I didn’t even know it was him because I ran out of the room so fast and down the hall. I didn’t even know it was him until Auer told me.”

I started crying. “I thought you were laying in that room dead, Dray! When I saw that crime tape and could see blood, I just knew that it was you. No one was telling me anything until I happened to look in the room and see the two of them dead and no one else. And then I saw Jadon. I couldn’t believe that this happened. This seems so unreal.”

“This is by far the most fucked-up shit that’s ever happened at my company and to my family, and it’s all my fault. I don’t even know if that baby was really mine or not, but Rockwell didn’t take any chances. He couldn’t wait until she had it to be sure. She did text me last night and told me that he scheduled a meeting with me today with the two of them, but I thought it was of course about her business. I never thought he would do this to her and to himself, even if I was the father of her baby. And Jadon. Damn. I can’t even put it into words how unlucky he was. A bullet meant for me killed him while he was in the hall just doing his job.” He shook his head. “Damn.” He started crying.

I tried my best to console him, but he was inconsolable.
