Ivey

We all stared at the floor for a few moments, unsure of what to say. The door closed on the other side of the room. “Hey, I got some news.” Aaron sidled up to Skyler. “It looks like there’s some activity in St. Paul. I want to go check it out and have a conversation with Kyle before we go much further.” Aaron towered over Skyler. His black hair was slicked back into a tight ponytail. In contrast, Skyler’s hair was wild and cut to frame her heart-shaped face..

“Wait, you want to talk to your brother? The one who’s changing Morrigan’s orders and probably wants you dead, that brother?” Skyler’s voice was fierce as her eyes widened at Aaron.

“Yeah, he won’t kill me. We are brothers after all. I have way too much on him. I figure I have one hell of a bargaining chip.” He smirked and Skyler scowled. They were quite the pair. I wasn’t sure if they were going to brawl or kiss the way they were glaring at each other

“Oh yeah, what’s your bargaining chip?” Skyler rested her hand on her hip. I had a feeling she already knew what he was going to say.

“You,” Aaron said with all the confidence of a lion who’d cornered its prey.

“Are you planning on turning on us?” Skyler shifted and crossed her arms. I couldn’t believe the guy, who she fought for a moment ago, was about to go to the enemy and hand us over to him.

“I didn’t say I was actually going to turn you over to him. I just want him to believe I will. As long as he thinks I’m still on his side, he’ll tell me anything I want to know.” He shrugged as if this was going to be the easiest thing in the world. I didn’t know him that well, but he seemed a little too cocky considering he just said he was going to offer his girlfriend up as a bargaining chip. The way Skyler was looking at him, told me she wasn’t appreciating his nonchalance either.

“What happens when he doesn’t believe you and decides to attack you instead?”

“He won’t, I’m confident he’ll want you more than he wants to kill me. Even if he doesn’t believe me, he’ll want a chance to follow me. I actually believe that’s the real reason he’ll meet with me. He’s going to hope that I bring him to you. He wins either way.” Aaron moved and took a seat at the desk next to the chairs and couch.

“Are you kidding me? You want to use yourself as bait? You’re hoping he follows you straight to us. Are you insane?” Skyler threw up her hands and stormed across the room.

“Yeah, pretty much.” Aaron sat back in the chair. His leather coat fell open revealing a clean white t-shirt beneath. I could see his muscles beneath the shirt, maybe he had reason to be so cocky. Preston noticed where my gaze had landed and his eyebrows rose.
