Chapter Twenty-Two

Work sucked ass worse than I’d expected. Bagging fucking groceries. Sure, Prim and I had a nice stash of money between the two of us, but I didn’t want to blow through it like a couple of irresponsible kids. I wanted a nest egg tucked away for our future together, one I feared would only ever be a couple rather than the threesome we were meant to be.

I longed to be her everything, though. Take care of her needs, not just sexually and emotionally, but physically as well. That meant a good job, one that would provide better than a handful of dollars per hour.

Never mind I wouldn’t even be able to even fulfill those first two without the one man we needed.

After a quick lesson in what to pack where in a plastic bag, I stood behind a cashier as she beeped item after item across the scanner, the lame-ass music and murmur of voices only aggravating me more than the clothing itching every inch of my skin.

I wanted Primrose, missed her enough I kept rubbing my chest.

The twenty-something cashier to my right kept checking me out—I swore I could feel her goddamn stare. Glancing her way twice earned me smiles, but I turned away, uninterested. If she’d been looking at me like that before Prim stormed into my life, I’d have been buried between her thighs before night’s end.

She brushed passed me on her way to break, but rather than my dick twitching with interest in her big breasts, it shriveled even more with disgust.

At least my body would never tempt me into cheating.

Five minutes later, I went to the break room to grab something to eat—and found her there by herself.

“Hey,” she said, her voice all come and get me, hot thing.

Not wanting to be an asshole, I mumbled a greeting and pulled open the fridge for my bottle of water I’d left on the bottom shelf earlier.

My backside tingled.

“You new in town?” she asked as I straightened.

“Yeah.”

“Got a girlfriend?”

My dragon purred. I smiled as the bottle lip rested against mine. “Something like that.” Long pulls filled my mouth with cold water, and I swallowed, the chill reaching to my empty stomach.

She stood and rounded the table, pressing against my side while leaning up onto her tiptoes. Her hot breath brushed over my neck, and I stepped back, capping my water as my dragon growled.

“Not interested,” I said before she could say whatever she’d planned on tempting me with.

“What, are you gay or something?” she asked, hands on hips and scowling.

“You’re not my female.” I glanced down over her generous curves, unmoved. “And you’re definitely not the alpha I want.”

“Fucking weirdo.” She pushed past me and left the breakroom.

I slouched in the chair she’d vacated, blowing out a breath.

College. That’s what I needed to do. Get myself a good education, one like Patrick had. Stable and sure, with a much better promise than minimum wage. I could afford a community college for a couple years, but not much else.
