i’d fall into her arms, lose myself in her infinity

in the dreaminess of her blue-green eyes

golden sunlight descends through leaves

mixing with the songs of the forest

songs of the day mixing with those

songs of the coming night

metaphors on metaphors within

metaphors belonging to time immemorial

the crosses melt into the puddles

along the ditches at the crossroads

one more look, memorizing how to get back

i turn and carry them all with me

walking into the painted city

following the path of Rilke’s panther
