Chapter 4

Izzy

When I woke up, I really felt like I needed to blow off some steam. I walked to the part of the campus where all the practice rooms were, but all of the rooms were taken. I nearly screamed in frustration. There wasn’t anything that I could do about it either. Davis had gotten his way once again and I was screwed. I hated that feeling.

I started to walk away from the rooms, feeling frustrated. Way more than frustrated actually. I was alone and I could feel the sparks threatening to overwhelm me. I needed to blow off steam at some point or I was going to explode. I was pretty sure that was exactly what Davis wanted me to do. Explode in a thousand tiny pieces from trying to hold in the power for too long.

Of course, the books never mentioned anything about the explosion hurting me unless I knocked something down, but I could seriously hurt other people. That just made it all the worse for me.

I was wallowing and I knew it. It wasn’t good for me, but that didn’t matter. Davis had been being a total asshole to me, and I knew that I deserved better. This was impossible to deal with. I needed to get to someplace safe.

My thoughts were interrupted when a familiar voice called out to me. “Hey!”

I looked up and saw Killian there.

“Killian!” My eyes widened in surprise and I ran towards him.

He smiled at me. “I’m so glad you’re alright. I heard about what Davis has been doing to you.”

“Yeah. I can’t get a practice room.”

“I have one for me. Come and use it.”

He pulled me back in the direction of the practice rooms, and I breathed a sigh of relief. I was finally going to get a shot to blow off this extra steam that had been building up. He got me in the room and locked the door behind us. I didn’t say much, immediately getting to work, throwing blasts at the targets scattered around until I was too tired to do anymore.

Killian just waited and watched me do it and I immediately felt a lot better.

After I was finished, he still stood there.

“Sorry.” It was all that I could say. I knew that my hair was in a mess from the electricity and my clothes had a serious case of static cling. I must have looked barely human.

“For what?”

“For doing that before we had a chance to talk. Davis has been keeping all the rooms booked up.”

“I figured you needed to do that, but I do want to talk to you about some stuff.”

“Okay… What kind of stuff?” I tilted my head in curiosity.

“About us.”

“What about us?”

“Is there an us?”

I sighed. “I don’t know. I don’t really know anything anymore.”

“Wilson came and talked to me,” Killian said, running his fingers through his haid in exasperation. “He told me that you were miserable. That you missed me.”

“I did miss you.”

“Did?” He looked surprised.

“Well, you’re right here now.” I gestured towards him with a soft laugh.
