“I REALLY AM BETTER, aren’t I, Dr. Lacey?” Molly Weatherby asked as Lacey finished examining her, shortly after lunchtime.

“It would appear so, honey.” Lacey smiled. Molly’s fever had broken during the night and hadn’t returned. The pain in her tummy had disappeared, as had the persistent nausea and vomiting. In fact, she was tolerating liquids by mouth so well they’d been able to remove the IV and start her back on soft foods. She still looked pretty wiped out, but that was to be expected after being as sick as she had been the past few days.

“Does this mean she’ll be released from the hospital today?” Patricia Weatherby asked anxiously.

Lacey nodded, then warned, “But Molly is still going to have to take it easy for a few days, just to be on the safe side.”

Patricia Weatherby looked worried again. “Are you sure your mother is okay with the two of us staying with her?”

“Absolutely,” Lacey reassured her. “In fact, she’s got the guest room all ready for the two of you. And she wants Teddy Beddy—” Lacey tweaked the nose of Molly’s favorite stuffed animal “—to come stay with her, too.”
