Chapter Three
In the morning, Thea was so excited about their new rules that she almost skipped to the breakfast buffet with Trent. He had picked a cottony floral dress for her to wear today. He held her hand all the way there, and when they found a table, he pulled the chair out for her to sit on. Once she was settled, he went to find food for her.
When he returned with a plate of breakfast, Thea smiled. He’d found all her favorites.
“I even got you the last muffin,” he told her.
Her heart overflowed. “Did I tell you how much I love you, today?”
“Sir,” he prompted. “Or daddy.” She felt her cheeks get hot; had she forgotten already?
“Sorry, sir.”
At that moment, a waitress brought their drinks. Thea had more OJ, and Trent had a big cup of freshly-brewed coffee. Thea tore open one sachet of sugar and poured it into Trent’s coffee before the waitress left. Once they were alone, she added the milk, and stirred it.
“Here, sir,” she said quietly.
He nodded, and lifted the cup to his lips. “Smells good.”
As Thea began eating her breakfast, an inner calm washed over her. She’d had the same feeling when Trent had made her into a 1950s housewife for two weeks to teach her to do her chores. It was the sense of order and satisfaction that came from serving her husband.
“What’s our plan for the day, daddy?” Thea asked.
“We’re going to go get massages at the day spa this morning, and in the afternoon, we’re taking a yoga class,” Trent said.
Thea giggled. These weren’t the usual high-intensity activities Trent preferred.
“Sir, who are you and what have you done with my husband?”
He raised a brow at her and she giggled some more.
“Eat your muffin. This caveman needs to go hunt some eggs and bacon because my plate’s empty.”
Thea’s gaze lingered on his perfectly-toned butt as he walked away toward the food. His hair had gotten darker since they moved to Coast Town, but that was the only change. His piercing blue eyes still saw through every naughty thing Thea ever thought of.
She knew he’d make a wonderful father for their baby, because he was already her perfect daddy, and while the two things weren’t the same, they were close enough. The qualities she admired in her daddy were responsibility, resilience, lovableness and his playfulness. Those were the same aspects that she wanted their baby to know about his father.
Trent returned with a big plate of food.
“Me, hungry.” He put on a Tarzan voice as he spoke, and Thea laughed so loudly, several heads turned and looked their way. She didn’t care.
They lingered over breakfast, and Thea enjoyed the unhurried morning. Even at the weekends, they were usually racing off to do something, so it was wonderful to slow down and savor the moment.
