When they returned to Twitch’s apartment, a man in jeans and a t-shirt opened the door. Despite his casual attire, Irena guessed from his no-nonsense stance that he was Twitch’s FBI contact. “Twitch tells me you are involved in Sammy’s disappearance,” he said, surveying them both, then glancing behind them.

Irritation swept through Irena. “That’s us. Although, we don’t know for sure who took Sammy. She did hack for a living.”

The man’s stance softened, and he stood back so they could enter the apartment. “Duly noted.”

At a nearby table sat a young woman, who was checking out Sammy’s computer. As Gordon and Irena sat down, the man introduced himself. “I’m Special Agent Tony Molinaro. Me and Twitch go way back, so I’m here to help, although my time is limited.” His eyes fell on Irena. “How about you tell me what you know. All of it.”

Irena leaned back on the couch and relayed how she’d been trying to locate her father when she called Sammy, and how Sammy appeared to have kept the files.

“You have any Lithuanian contact names?” Tony asked.

“Just a phone number. Can you trace the source of recent texts?”

“They’re likely using a burner, but it’s worth a try.” Tony took the phone from Irena and handed it to the woman, who nodded. “You never talked to someone in person?” he added.

Irena considered his question. “Once. When I arrived in Warsaw to try and retrieve my father.”

“How’d the person get ahold of you?”

Irena thought back. “If I remember correctly, a woman called me on the hotel room phone. She gave me the name of a bar and told me to go there. My father was there with two men when I arrived.”

Tony dialed a number. “Give me the hotel name, dates of your stay, and the name you used when you checked in.”

While they waited, Irena willed herself not to think about her father. The best thing she could do right now was accept the fact that he might already be dead. Just then, Gordon covered her hand with his and squeezed. She gave him a sidelong glance and smiled.

Tony hung up the phone. “Anything there, Cathy?”

The young woman shook her head and got up and handed the phone back to Irena. “It’s a burner, like we thought.”

“Well my contact in Warsaw was able to pull up where that hotel call originated. An accounting firm owned by Solana Petrauskas. Does that name mean anything to you?”

Irena thought for a moment. “No, it doesn’t ring a bell.”

Tony’s phone buzzed, and he checked the screen. “I’ve got a photo I want you to check out.” He handed his phone to her.

Irena did a doubletake when she looked at the photo of the woman, with her dark raven hair hanging down in a large braid and blood red lipstick. It was the woman she’d seen her father with several times over the years.

“Who is she?” Irena asked as Gordon took the phone and had a look.

“You’ve seen her before?” Tony asked.

“Yes, a few times with my father.
