My hair flowed behind me, some of the strands sticking to the sweat on my back and neck. In these sky-high clear heels, it was hard to maintain my balance while trying to look sexy at the same time.
I shouldnât even have to look sexy. Thirteen-year-olds should look like children, not dance on stage for crusty old mobsters. But the boss said I was working the poles tonight, and I guess there was some big spender coming in later who specifically requested the youngest girl in the club for a private show. My stomach had been in knots all night about it.
The club wasnât busy and had maybe about twenty customers milling around. It was dark, lit with only a few flashing blue and pink lights, and the air was thick with smoke and the stench of sweat and bodily fluids. It was one of those kinds of clubs where the patrons were free to pay for sex out in the open if they wanted to and the girls couldnât refuse. Theyâd pay for it with their bodies if they did.
Well, I could refuse, actually. I wasnât allowed to have sex with the men because it would lower my purchase price when buyers came looking. I wondered if the other girls resented me for it. Iâd seen Tricia at work more than enough times to know that it wasnât a pleasant job and that the men she was forced to sleep with werenât concerned about her pleasure, only their own.
So I danced without complaint, knowing that I could have it much worse here. I could feel the menâs eyes on me, making my skin tingle unpleasantly. In the dark, they couldnât see the bruises covering my limbs, or pick up on the fact that I was skin and bones. Not that these guys would care even if they did notice, all they cared about was money, property, sex, and drugs.
I danced for two hours before the boss flagged me over from behind the bar. He tapped his watch over his head, a look of urgency on his face. My stomach clenched, knowing I was out of time, and my customer had finally arrived. He would be the fourth customer ever that had requested me for a private show, and every time, I hoped it would be the last.
I left the stage, ignoring the pointed look Tricia was giving me. I pretended I didnât even see her. Sometimes she acted like she was my personal guardian or something, thinking it was her job to protect me. But I needed to protect myself. I was slowly starting to realize that I couldnât rely on other people for everything, because Tricia wouldnât be around forever. Every day I woke up not knowing if the boss was going to finally sell me. Everyone I knew could be ripped away from me at any point in time.
Iâd only been at the club for about a year. Before that, Iâd been owned by an older man who had a thing for underdeveloped female bodies.
