"I expected it to be fancy, but I didn't think it would be this fancy," I heard Bianca mumble beside me.

We'd just arrived at the Olympus Hotel and everything that Bianca had said, I was thinking too. It was obvious that Cross Industries knew how to throw a party because this was utter perfection. I'd known that my parents had spared no expense when throwing their most recent party at their home, but this was on a whole other level.

The finest wines and champagnes, along with appetizers, including caviar and oysters. My mother sent a look Bianca's way when she eyed a tray of drinks that a server held as he tried to do his job.

I leaned over and whispered in her ear, "We are on our best behavior tonight because who knows who is watching, remember?"

She leaned closer to me and said, "I know, but having a drink would help numb me to this bullshit."

I snorted and looked around the huge room. We were still standing near the back of the room, but up at the front, there were tables prepared for us to sit down and a stage with a podium on it. It was obvious that we were, at the very least, going to hear speeches and presentations at some point.

I looked down at the place card with my name on it before putting it in my pocket. We were at table number three so I assumed we would be sitting somewhere near the stage.

I still hadn't seen Damien yet, but I reminded myself that I needed to be patient. I just couldn't believe that they were going forward with this event after they'd lost one of their own. What were they hiding?

"You know, I'm surprised that they don't own a hotel where they could have hosted this."

"Don't give them any ideas."

It was Bianca's turn to laugh and when Easton started laughing with her, she glared at him.

I shook my head and spotted my father across the room. My father had immediately jumped into conversations with several people and had them laughing at whatever story he was telling them. He and I might not agree on much, but I did have to admit that when it came to networking and convincing people that he was the right person for just about anything, he did it with perfection.

My mom made sure to gently touch my father and he, in response, would put a hand on the small of her back, showing the people that they were conversing with that they were very in tune with one another and that they were a stable unit. Once again, this showed that you might want to vote for my father because he had the quintessential perfect family. At least, on the surface, it appeared that way.

"Nash."

I turned to face a man that was about my father's age. He looked familiar, but I couldn't place him.

"I haven't seen you since you were a little boy."

He pulled me, Easton, and Bianca into a conversation that went on longer than planned.
