Chapter Nine:
Rear duty, I found, is not to be sneered at.
Another smart little chopper and crew gave me a ride to the rear after I had been greeted and given a hero’s welcome by the guys in the Company when I went to pack up a few things to take with me.
The Sky boys had already been shipped out for their R&R, and the rest of the Company and I hugged like the long lost brothers we were. We mourned our friend Lou. The next thing I knew, I was airborne in secure air space and given a first class suite in one of the captured palaces that was being run like a hotel. All of the journalists, dignitaries, and guys being called “hero”, who were really just doing their job, were being housed there.
I settled into the lush suite. Seventy some hours earlier I was in a cave sleeping on a rock and now I had thousand count thread sheets under my ass. The former Royal Palace was a much nicer accommodation than Shea Cavern.
I used the pool, then hit the shower, where I used copious amounts of scalding hot water. I also took advantage of the small, quiet marble clad shower room to vent out some in private.
Yowling like a cat in heat, I cried my eyes out over the fear of what might have happened in the desert and over the fact that Jace had confessed how sorry he was, and that now he was gone and I would never see him again.
I was a hot mess; in other words, an emotional wreck. Despite all of that, life still had to go on. I couldn’t force Jace to be with me any more than I could have done anything different with Parker. I was at least thankful to have that friendship back on track.
I had a steak sent up for my dinner, was getting ready to watch a movie and have a long night’s sleep, when there was a knock at the door. I swung it open and found myself staring at a huge cowboy hat, and under it was a long lean torso in tight jeans with a belt buckle the size of a dinner plate anchoring the midsection of the body to a skin tight white t-shirt.
The hat lifted slowly and Gil’s beaming grin hit me like an electric shock.
“What the fu…,” I stammered, as the Texan charged into the room. Catching me in a bear hug, he pushed me back across the huge room and flattened himself on top of me on the huge bed.
Before I could say anything, he had pressed his lips down against mine and forced his tongue between my teeth.
My dick was hard from the second he had touched me.
The kiss lasted a long time. I didn’t frankly care if it ever stopped.
And it didn’t for a long while.
Gil held me on the bed while we made out. I felt safe and secure in his arms.
Pushing himself up off of me, he held an arm down toward me.
