Noah’s acting like he’s fine, but a mother knows. I already called Isla and she’s headed out of town with her boyfriend for the weekend. And my mother’s sciatica has gone crazy. And my dad has a bowling tournament. So, it’s me.

And I know what this presentation means to Ronan Marketing Inc, but I can’t be in two places at once.

“I don’t got the corn mungus. I wanna go to school,” Noah says, but snuggles in closer to me with a long shiver.

“It’s okay…” I tell him, wrapping a blanket around him.

“What’s going on?” Dax’s voice softens.

“My…” I freeze. This could change everything. I haven’t said anything about Noah to anyone at work. Plus, playboys don’t like kids, right?

He’s going to have to know sooner or later and right now, is sooner.

“I have a five-year-old son and he’s got a cold today. Nothing major, but I can’t send him to school and get other kids sick. I’m sorry, I can’t do the presentation.”

There’s silence and I figure I’m fired. At least I got to pick his brain on one idea.

One bad idea that might have really been bad and not good.

And got to be pricked by his manhood. There hasn’t been an hour I haven’t thought of our time on that conference table.

“Where are you?” he asks.

“At home.”

“And the address?”

“Why?”

He wants to fire me in person…great.

“Because I’m going to take care of your son while you do the presentation.”

Sirens go off in my head. “Yeah, I don’t think you want to do that…Mr.—”

“If you call me Mr. Ronan one more time, you will be fired, Anna. I’m not going backwards in this relationship. Now, address, please….”

“Dax,” my heart beats faster saying his first name, “I don’t know if I can…”

“Trust me?”

“Yes.”

“I have four nieces and two nephews. I’ve watched three of them at once when they were all under the age of five.”

“Really?” Sometimes Noah feels like three or more kids with his energy and intelligence.

“Yes, really. I can give you references. My sister won’t hold back.”

“I don’t know.”

Noah’s my everything.

“Anna…baby, you can trust me.”

I stare at Noah. “Twenty-two, fourteen Spaulding Street. It’s a duplex with a blue front door.”

“I’ll be there in ten.”

“Are you sure?”

“I’m sure I want to be a part of your life, and that means being a part of your son’s life, too.”

“Okay.”

“And hey, what’s his name?”

“Noah.”

“Great. See you soon.”

I give Noah a hug. “Let’s get you froggy blanket.”

The blanket he’s had since birth and is his comfort item.

I tuck him into a human burrito, wrapped in the super soft Minky blanket.

“Froggy blanket always helps.”

“Yes, he does.”

But can I trust Dax to help?
