Clint slipped out of bed just long enough to dispose of the condom. Sliding under the sheet, he gathered Avery into his arms, holding her close while he tried to figure out the next step, the next words. He wasn’t sure what she was thinking or feeling. Something in her voice had been too measured for his liking when she’d mentioned living in the present, no strings or obligations. He found himself longing for strings with Avery. She was the kind of obligation he would happily adjust to, given a chance.

With a contented sigh, she snuggled closer, her hand stirring the hair on his chest. “That was fantastic,” she murmured against his skin.

His muscles shivered, goosebumps lifting all along his side. “No argument here.” He brushed a kiss to her hair, then drew her over his body so he could indulge in more deep kisses. His hands glided up and down her back. The woman had a body built for pleasure. And making her sigh and moan had been the most fun he’d had in bed. Ever.

He didn’t want her in danger, didn’t want her ever to feel anxious or afraid, and yet he wondered how long she’d let him stick around once they sorted out who was causing her trouble.

“What are you thinking about?” she asked, her fingertips tracing the shell of his ear.

He squeezed her backside. “Wondering when you might be up for an encore.” A much safer response than all the other thoughts in his head.

Avery had him thinking about sharing much more than a few nights in bed. He was contemplating serious, long-term, exclusive options. He’d always been the guy who recognized what he wanted and went for it. This wasn’t the time to move too soon.

Rolling her to her back, he pushed up on straight arms and admired her beautiful breasts.

“Hm.” She licked her lips. “Now works for me.”

Her voice was an irresistible purr and he happily set himself to the task of pleasuring her all over again.
