Chapter Six

Beckett walked out of the room calmly and jerked his head from side to side. Five minutes. That’s all he had to disable the hold on the assassins. In all the planning of the previous few hours, he knew that they couldn’t walk in and push a button without things getting bloody and people getting dead. He was good at his job, but he wasn’t good enough to take on an entire army of genetically enhanced assassins. That’s when he struck up a plan with Diablo. He got the old man to call off the assassins on him if he brought in Ari. It was a good idea at the time. Ari could withstand a little pain. God knows being trained by Mitch afforded him the ability to. It gave Beckett enough time to get into the control room without dealing with Diablo and his army. Once he was there, he could disable the control and then go get Ari out of this mess.

Beckett hoped his crazy plan worked. He went to the control room and spotted four sensors. An old trick Marquise taught him to disable security came in handy in these situations. He scanned his wristband over the sensors and let it register the signal. The computer system would pick up on activity, but it wouldn’t alert anyone to any misconduct. He bypassed one obstacle and went for the next. The door was definitely locked and not with some flimsy bolt. It was bionic which meant that he either had to trip the system to get inside or contain the genetic code that the system recognized. Beckett went with tripping the system. If anyone was monitoring the control room, they would now know an intruder was inside. Once he opened the door, he found massive screens covering three walls with several activities going on each of them. He watched a soldier kill an innocent woman on the public streets and quickly ran to the main system to figure out how to stop it.

Taking a deep breath, he recalled what Bella had told him. To disarm the system, he would need to crash it. Or pull the plug. Neither would be easy. He wasn’t the most techy person he knew and he definitely wasn’t up to date on the advancements in training assassins. He didn’t know if killing the system would kill the men or if they would be released from the bondage put on them. Either way, he had to do it and he had to get him and Ari out of there.

He started typing on the screen and nothing happened. A red light flashed and he knew within moments, he’d have visitors. Beckett pulled out his weapon and started shooting the laser at the screens. It damaged them but didn’t stop the program. He was running out of time. He pointed the laser at the column mounted on the wall and shot it. The system went into complete failure, buzzers ringing alerts going off. The sound was so deafening he didn’t hear the footsteps behind him.
