Tucker didn’t know he’d fallen asleep until Race’s hand brushed his cheek. He glanced up and Race stared back at him. “I got a message from Ari. They’ll be here in a few. We need to get ready to leave because we’ll probably have to go out fighting.”

Tucker nodded. “How long have I been asleep?”

“A while.”

Tucker reached out and linked his fingers with Race’s. Race turned and squatted next to him. “I’m sorry for before.”

“It’s forgiven and forgotten.”

“I need you and it scares me.”

Race leaned in. “Believe it or not I feel the same way.”

Tucker pressed a tender kiss to Race’s lips. It really was that easy between them. They could say they were sorry and none of that mattered because the other had already forgiven them. Race smoothed his hand down Tucker’s chest.

“More of that later.” Race had a gleam in his eyes that Tucker found charming. “Go get dressed. We need to get outside and in the fields before they land.”

Tucker dressed in some clean clothes. He found his bag and weapon before Race ushered him out of the safe house. The night was too dark, too quiet. It seemed like the perfect time for an ambush. He watched the area knowing that the rebels always had guardsmen on watch. Where they were, he didn’t know.

“The fires are out. I don’t like the implication of that.” Race commented, his breath fanning the back of Tucker’s neck. “Keep in mind that we’re not alone.”

They walked to the back of the safe house to the nearly open fields. Tucker wanted to believe that Race’s brothers had finally made it to Brittany, that they would actually get to leave and nothing would happen to him in the process. He wanted to believe that freedom was just beyond the shadows, that Blackburn Force would offer him the sense of reprieve that he so desperately wanted.

“Maybe I should track them on the GPS. Ari said they were near. I thought they would be here by now.”

A flicker of light flashed in the sky and Tucker grabbed Race’s arm. Race nodded. The spaceship landed with ease and Race urged Tucker forward to the best of a machine. Calvary had come and they needed to get away from the planet before the rebels caught on. They were so close. So fucking close to being free.

Tucker went first with Race following behind and keeping his guard on the area. Beckett had a laser gun ready to cover for them if needed. Once they reached the ship, Ari greeted them with an outstretched hand. “If you would have fucking waited, it wouldn’t have taken us so long.”

Race helped Ari pulled the door shut and he glanced toward Brice. “Please tell me you can get this thing off the planet with ease. They’ll probably try to shoot at us.”

As if he’d read their minds, buzzing came from outside. Tucker peered through a small window and found rows and rows of rebel soldiers shooting lasers at the spaceship.
