“Okay then. If we’re going to do this, let’s do it.”

After taking a flashlight and a small pouch from the glove compartment, Lizzie opened her car door. “Give me ten minutes and then leave.”

The garage was as old as the house, a freestanding building at least a hundred years old. Moss grew on the tile roof, and the multi-paned windows on the wall and on the door were dirty, with peeling paint on the woodwork.

Lizzie pressed her face against a windowpane and shone a flashlight inside. A car was parked inside. She moved the beam of light around the interior of the garage. It was clean, with a wheelbarrow, a lawn mower, and some yard tools stacked in the corner. No clutter.

No indication of an alarm system.

The yellow-painted side door to the garage was locked. From the small pouch, she removed her lock-pick set and went to work. Thirty seconds later, she was inside. Despite the decrepit roof, the inside of the garage was dry.

The car, a red Cadillac, was spotless. Lizzie lay on the cement to place the small GPS tracker on the underside of the Cadillac, out of sight and out of easy reach. Then she stood, brushed herself off, and left the garage, closing the door.

Hearing voices at the front of the house, she pocketed the lock-picks without attempting to relock the door and headed down the drive.

At the front of the house, a police car, lights flashing, was parked behind her Lexus. Murphy leaned against the car, while one officer patted her down, not finding anything.
