Chapter 8

Vadim

It has been a lot to take in for my margaritka. To be the daughter of a mob boss. Getting nearly abducted by another cartel. Only to end up as the captive of the man who has stalked her and who is not any better than her father or the men who tried to take her. I help her get up and lead her back to my room. She is quiet. Too quiet. She doesn’t even protest when I start undressing her. Any other time, undressing her would have gotten me hard as fuck. But my girl’s distress tempers my sexual needs and awakes the need to protect and care for her. When she is naked, I lead her into the adjoining bathroom. I open the tap. While we wait for the tub to fill, I take a comb and untangle Daisy’s golden locks and tie them to a knot at the back of her head. I don’t like the vacant look in her eyes. I’m no fucking doctor, but I know the signs of shock. And I know firsthand what trauma can do to you long term. I don’t want this for my girl.

“Margaritka,” I say gently, to get a reaction from her. When she doesn’t respond, I get in front of her and grab her a little harder by her arms, leaning in to look her directly in the eyes. “Margaritka,” I say more forcefully. “Look at me!”

She blinks a few times, but then she looks at me. A tear rolls over her cheek, and I wipe it away with my thumb. It breaks my black fucking heart to see her so distressed. It makes the need in me to punish those Cuban bastards even greater.

“You’re going to be okay,” I say sternly. “You are stronger than this.”

It takes me by surprise when she throws herself into my arms and sobs at my chest. I hug her tightly, whispering soothing things into her ear. I’m not even aware I am speaking Russian. Not that it would matter to her in this moment. It’s my comfort she need. The words and their meaning are secondary. When she calms down a bit, I untangle her from me and lead her to the tub. It has filled up by now. I close the tap and lean down to test the water. It’s hot but not too hot. I take a bottle with bubble bath and pour it into the water, stirring it around a bit, before lifting Daisy into my arms and lowering her into the water.

“Thank you,” she says with a broken voice. “You... you saved my life.”

I brush the hair out of her face and place a kiss on her forehead. Never has a woman brought out this tender side of me. It’s foreign and I am not sure what to make of it.

“I will always protect you, margaritka,” I promise.

“Why? I am not special. You could have any woman.”

“What did I say to you about putting yourself down?”

She turns away, avoiding my stern gaze.
