I had no idea how I could feel so horrible and so wonderful at the same time. I kept replaying the kiss in my head over and over again, and I couldn’t believe how intense it was. Before this, kisses had just been kisses, nice but never special. I’d definitely never spent so much time looking back at them and unable to think about anything else.

I hated that I’d ran away. I didn’t want to ignore Dylan, in fact it tore my heart apart to do it. But I was overwhelmed, confused, and absolutely unable to process any of it, let alone know what to do.

I’d known I was attracted to Dylan in some form or another, but I never let myself think about it too hard. I always told myself it was natural, just admiration and appreciation or something. This only proved it was so much more than that, and I wasn’t ready. I couldn’t take on something that felt so huge, but I also hated the thought of ignoring Dylan or even pretending everything was still the same.

I couldn’t just hang out with him and chat casually without glancing at his lips, without seeking his touch, holding his hand, and thinking about all the things I wanted us to do that weren’t all that friendly.

As we were saying goodbye to Dylan’s grandparents, his grandma smiled at me and squished me in a hug.

“You’re a good girl. Remember that you deserve the best in life,” she whispered in my ear and let go. My eyes stung with tears at her words and all I could do was nod and smile.

We said goodbye, and Dylan and I got in the car. I was relieved when he put on some music because I could not possibly find any words to say. Nothing felt right. I wasn’t ready to discuss the kiss, but I also didn’t want to talk about anything random and pretend I was fine and not thinking about it. So we drove in silence and I wondered what the hell I was going to do.
