Roman

Dr. Mitch Minotti was hosting a party in his well-equipped dungeon. Since they mostly played behind the closed bedroom door at home or at Jason's apartment, this was about the only public venue Roman allowed. The fetish events at the strip-club-turned-temporary dungeon were too busy, and some of the participants so downright odd they made Roman uncomfortable. When Jeff was stronger and Jason ready for more involved play, Roman planned to ask for personal access to the doctor's dungeon, but they weren't ready for that quite yet.

As he led Jason into one new experience after another, he wondered how Dare was getting on with Thomas. He shivered a little – just thinking Thomas' name made the bottoms of his feet tingle, but also made him grin to himself. Dare was in safe but scary hands with that one. And Roman thought that might be exactly where Dare wanted to be. Needed to be, even.

He still hurt a little over losing Dare, missed touching the boy's pretty face, watching his eyes widen in shock, cloud with uncertainty, and, ultimately, darken into arousal and then submission. Dare wasn't able to turn off his brain to submit easily, so getting him there was what Lifestylers meant when they said submission was a gift. When Dare gave himself, really gave himself, it was like… your every best Christmas morning and all your birthdays at once. The pride Roman felt in him, the love, was overwhelming. The best ego trip ever, Topspace times a thousand, holding this precious thing as he went completely outside of himself, petting him while he cried because he was overwhelmed, too, beyond thought, beyond shame, just letting go, letting go, and then just… gone.

Jason wasn't like that, nor was Jeff.

Hell, no one had ever been quite like that. And that was okay. He didn't talk about Dare to Jeff or Jason, but Roman wasn't afraid to admit to himself that he had, indeed, fallen in love with Dare, and would always hold love for him. It didn't lessen or denigrate the love he held for anyone else, including Jeff. Including Jason.

It is what it is.

And maybe that's why things were different with Jason than they'd been with Dare – why Jeff was able to enjoy Jason rather than resent him. Roman could play Jason like a fine-tuned instrument, but the love Roman felt for him was friendly, not romantic. Perhaps, with all the changes in their lives, Roman and Jeff had learned to be better partners.

Their relationship seemed back on track, maybe even stronger than ever, and Roman had few regrets about the decisions he'd made over the past year.

Minnesota was good for them. Away from the distractions of running a club, away from the scene of the accident, the expectations of the BDSM community, which the show-off part of Roman had never minded, but somehow took away the intensity between himself and Jeff. And intensity was important, those sparks that grew into flames, that put Jeff naked on
