Ri

I’ve never seen someone find a chapel so fast. Or rush half a dozen people out of a hotel suite that fast. I don’t know what the rush is or if she arranged this all with Vincent without me, but the transition was whiplashing. Within minutes we go from dancing on the roof, drinking champagne, and trying to keep my eyes anywhere but on Rialta and Beckett making out to jumping into a waiting limo.

Yea, Rialta definitely planned this.

She’s all over Beckett in the limo as Hayes starts pouring everyone more champagne.

“Wait! No one can drink anything else!” Rialta says.

Hayes stops mid-pour. “Why not?”

“Last time I drank something before my wedding, I got poisoned.”

Hayes looks at the bottle and then sighs, putting it back down. “I don’t know how we are supposed to get through tonight on one glass of champagne,” he mumbles to me.

I smile tightly. “Once we get to the chapel, I’m getting drunk. I don’t care what she says. I tried it sober, and it damn near killed me. You guys are going to need to be on your best behavior to keep everyone safe.”

Hayes grumbles some more but agrees and passes on the message to the other two, who nod at me. They’ve got my back; they always do.

The limo stops outside of a chapel, and I feel like vomiting. How can this be happening so quickly? Last time I was prepared. I hadn’t seen them together yet. I told myself it was for the best. But now, actually seeing them together, it feels like I’m about to attend my own funeral, not a wedding.

The second Rialta is out, I lean over to Hayes. “Hand me that bottle.”

He happily hands it to me, and I gulp down several swigs before getting out of the limo. The second I’m outside and I see her holding his hand and kissing him again, I realize no amount of alcohol is going to help. I feel stone-cold sober.

“Fuck,” I curse.

Hayes, Lennox, and Gage surround me, putting their arms on or around me.

“Don’t lose faith. Even if they get married, it doesn’t mean that’s the end for you and him,” Lennox says.

I nod, but he’s wrong. If Beckett marries her, that will be it. There will be no going back. The mafia won’t allow it.

We head into the chapel, where Rialta is talking giddily to the receptionist.

“We have thirty minutes until our time slot. Guys, head into that room and find something to put on. River, come with me,” Rialta says, skipping into a room that says, ‘For Brides.’

Hayes smiles at me encouragingly. Lennox matches my expression, looking like he’s about to be sick. And Gage pulls up his phone, letting me know he’s got the security part covered.

I can’t look at Beckett. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to look at him again. I just walk into the room that Rialta just disappeared into.

“Wow,” I say when I see a heaping cart of wedding dresses in the corner.

“The receptionist said we can rent any of the dresses for the wedding.
