Chapter Twelve

After cleaning up, they headed back downstairs to put away the groceries. Atienne cleaned the bottle of oil, giving Kinsey a wicked smile.

“I think I need a wooden spoon to paddle your ass with the next time I take you in the kitchen.” He wiggled his brows.

“You are not taking a spoon to my ass, you crazy perv,” he teased, and Atienne grinned. He grinned back. “Maybe once in a while.”

“You’re gorgeous when you smile, Kinsey,” he murmured, a touch of wonder in his voice. “Your eyes get these little bursts of electricity in them. It makes you look so damn hot.”

Kinsey smiled. “You’re just saying that because you want to fuck me again.”

Atienne grinned salaciously. “You know it, baby!” They both laughed. “This safe house is pretty secure since we’re the only ones who know we’re here besides the three others. So, we should be safe here another night or two.”

“We should find a place closer to Cayenne so he’ll have us for backup,” Kinsey said. “With the way things are going…” He trailed off not really wanting to state the obvious.

Atienne’s phone rang. “We’ll start looking for a place tomorrow,” he said as he pulled it free of his belt loop. “We won’t use Cayenne though, because it might make us easier to track.”

“You’re assuming we’re letting Jenkins get his agency back,” Kinsey said.

“I don’t assume that’s in the plans,” he answered and then said, “Can you start us some dinner while I take this?”

Kinsey nodded. “Sure.” He washed his hands and selected a few items for dinner while he listened to Atienne’s brief conversation. He sensed his tension even before the conversation was over and faced Atienne the second he stopped talking.

“What is it?”

“There is a shipment of young men going out in a week,” Atienne told him. “There’s been whispers that Cass and Kiernan will be among that group.”

“We’re going to find the base, Atienne, and Eclipse and Avin will get into the trucking company.” He didn’t know how to assure Atienne when he knew it could be just wishful thinking. Atienne grimaced and cursed.

Kinsey went to hug him. “We’re going to save your brother, baby. If there is a way we’ll find it.”

Atienne hugged him. “You’re right. I have to think positive.” He blew out a harsh breath and released Kinsey.

“Hackers can probably get some information, but Jenkins won’t leave that big a trail on the shipments. I mean, not as arms and human cargo.”

“It’ll take too long to sift through all the code,” Atienne muttered. “And if we move too fast they might ship the men out using other means.”

“You’re right,” Kinsey agreed. “But a little patience. Avin and Eclipse will get to Raye or Dancie. They run the company on the surface, so they will have something that will help us ascertain whether Cass and Kiernan are among the cargo.”

“I’ll call Matt.”

“I’ll make us dinner.” Cooking was busy work that kept him focused on something besides the negatives. Besides that, his stomach was growling like a pissed-off tiger.
