Conflict #2: LLOYD AND HARRY VERSUS THE WORLD. The world can be a rough place with a combined IQ of 10, and throughout the film are moments in which Lloyd and Harry’s natural stupidity makes their journey much more difficult. They get robbed by a “sweet old lady on a motorized cart.” Lloyd nearly gets raped in a bathroom stall by a burly redneck. Harry almost loses his tongue when it gets stuck to the metal frame of a ski lift. Time and again, the boys’ lack of smarts works against them. At many moments in the film, the biggest threat to Lloyd and Harry is not the kidnappers, but themselves; indeed, the criminals sometimes seem to be in the story just so it actually resembles a story and not merely a string of unconnected gag sequences. The issue: Will Lloyd and Harry’s stupidity get the better of them?
