Chapter Ten

“Oh God, that took forever.” Sullivan tossed his feet up on the couch, slipping them right into Samantha’s lap. She crinkled her nose before pinching his big toe. “Everyone is set, though, and no one is quitting. Crisis officially averted.”

He was exhausted, and his neck was beyond strained. The batch of macaroons he’d been planning on making would have to wait. Luckily, Samantha had come over near the end and had helped him power through the last few. His notebook was a full, scribbled mess.

“Want to watch a movie and drink hot cocoa?” Samantha pushed his feet off with one last grimace. “Not sure what you’re asking for, but I’m not going to rub those things.”

He chuckled, shaking his head. “Honestly? I don’t think I ever want to watch another Christmas movie again. I’ve gone through, like, thirty in the last few days. I need horror or, like, a really good shooting spree to even things out. How about Starship Troopers?”

“Gross, no.”

His chuckle was cut off as his phone chimed with an incoming call. He let out a groan, throwing himself back onto the couch dramatically. “I can’t do one more!”

But I have to. For the good of Christmas! Clearing his throat, he accepted the call.

“Sullivan?”

Butterflies burst in his belly, and he immediately sat up, nearly knocking Samantha from her place. His head spun, his mouth going dry. “Hey! How are you? I missed you.”

Oh crap. What am I even saying? Samantha was giving him a knowing look with one brow raised. It had only been hours since he’d last seen Lincoln, and he was being ridiculous. It was high school all over again.

Lincoln let out a low laugh, his voice so rich and deep that it gave him the shivers. “Is it bad if I missed you, too? What can I say? You have a comfy couch…and a comfy lap. I don’t think I’ll ever sleep that well again.”

Sullivan bit his lip, looking at Samantha who was mouthing the same thing over and over—‘Tell him.’

“Can we talk about something?” he asked, turning from the couch and heading for the kitchen. He touched his oven mitts that were hanging from the cupboard. Some of the threads were starting to fray. He added them to the to-do list.

“Don’t get ahead of yourself, boy. You don’t have to be worried. We didn’t do anything, and I have no intentions of stealing you from your husband, even if I do think he shouldn’t leave such a needy boy alone for so long.”

Every boy sent a renewed shiver down his spine, his cock awkwardly standing to attention with his best friend only a room away. Did Lincoln even know what he was doing?

“That’s the thing… I mean, I’m not—”

“Sullivan, don’t worry. You say the word and you’ll never see me again. I hope it doesn’t come to that, though. Is he giving you issues?”

“Do you ever shut up?” Sullivan couldn’t help but snap a bit. His confession had failed nearly a dozen times, and his secret was hanging heavy in his chest.
