Chapter 13 – A Day In Town With Daddy
Nanny got out a pair of trousers for me. She combined it with a really soft blouse and a warm sweater. Only a string of pearls was missing, and I would look like a soccer mom. She braided my long hair in one long thick braid.
I looked like an adult. I hadn’t looked like one, nor felt like on in so long. It was somehow hard for me to take Nanny’s hand dressed this way.
This is something I would have worn at home in my beautiful house. I would have started a fire and made myself a cup of hot chocolate, and then I would have gotten comfortable on my sofa while covered up with a blanket and worked on my laptop. I would have been truly happy.
I had loved my lonely life. It had been a nice life with the characters I created in my mind. I had complete control, and then came that fateful day – I didn’t want to think about that anymore. A chill went down my back.
We had reached the dining room now. Daddy was there, smiling at me.
I went right to his hand. I was scared, and I needed him to protect me. The memories were so strong and real, and it felt like they were breathing down my neck.
Daddy sat me down and we ate together. He seemed to be in a hurry.
After we were finished, he stood, took my hand and he brought me to the entryway. He got his coat out of the front closet and slipped into it. He then pulled out a coat for me and helped me into it. Nanny had followed us.
Daddy turned to her, smiling. “Nanny, we are going to tour the factory, then go to a couple of shops in town. I was thinking that if she were really good, we could go out to eat too. I have to see how much she is up for today.”
Nanny nodded at him and smiled at me. Daddy took my hand as he finished talking to her. She went off to lay down for a bit. Daddy walked out of the front door with me holding his hand.
I was scared again. I held onto his hand very tightly.
He opened the passenger side of his car and helped me in carefully, lifting the hem of my coat and laying it over my lap, so it wouldn’t get caught in the door. He closed the door, walked around the car and got in.
We drove off in his expensive sports car.
Car models were also something that I had to look up. I was a car idiot. I had bought my last car because it was supposed to be safe and highly efficient, (I liked the color and the seats were really comfortable too).
He drove through a small town that had the streets plowed. The snow was piled high on the sides of the roads. I was thinking that I could build that into a book.
