Chapter 22

“Okay, baby, are you ready?”

“Yes, Sir. Brittney is jealous. This is our time, right? Tell me not to feel guilty.”

“Yes, baby, it is our time. She’ll be fine, don’t worry about her.”

Quietly he undressed, tossing his clothes onto his huge canopied bed. She sat on the bench at the foot and she undid her boots, kicking them aside.

The crunching of bones and ligaments caught her attention. She turned to watch her gorgeous man become a lion. The sinewed muscles of his thighs and arms bulged, lengthening, his hands turning to paws—huge paws. His nails grew exponentially until the curved claws scraped and scratched at the floor. His groaning with the growth turned into growls and roars. Once the transition completed, his green eyes focused on her, and she shivered.

“Clothes off, Kitty. Let me watch you change.”

“Yes, Sir.”

She undid her jeans and kicked them aside. Then, with one arm, she swooped the top over her head, throwing it onto the growing pile of clothes.

Her lion crept slowly toward her, and she took a step back until his baritone growl halted her movement.

Standing in her panties and bra, she felt gooseflesh rise on her skin.

His furry paw, as big as her face, reached upward, and with one pointy claw, he carefully ripped her panties at the hip, and they shimmied down to the floor. Then, wasting no time, the same claw poised above the small strip of satin between her boobs, hesitating long enough to grab her attention. He swiped at it, and her breasts wobbled free of the restraint.

“Off.”

Kitty shoved the skinny straps from her shoulders and stood naked—and vulnerable—in front of her beast.

He’s not going to hurt me. I know this. I believe this.

“Come.”

Kat had no idea what she was walking toward, but if he demanded she’d follow, she would do it. Consequences be damned.

Brock had already turned, exiting the room. His broad backside and long tail swishing in front of her had her clit throbbing.

Kat had never in a million years thought she’d have a shifter, let alone a feline shifter, as a mate. She thanked God for the blessing of this man who had rescued her from the mafia and from herself.

As a small, timid cat, she felt just as vulnerable in her animal form as she did in real life. However, the prospect of being a victim and defenseless to her evil surroundings had clouded her optimism and spirit.

Now? Now she had a sense of hope and promise. Her future didn’t seem anywhere as bleak as it had six months ago.

The only obstacle in front of them was the Tarmino family.

But Brock had alleviated her concerns. He and the police investigators would handle it. She had to believe in their abilities.

After clumsily climbing down the stairs, losing her footing a few times, Kat awkwardly stumbled to the bottom step, and his colossal paw guided her protectively down to the floor.

“I forget how short your legs are with these stairs. Next time you can ride on my back.
